Methods for characterizing fluids from a patient. A time series of images of a conduit are received, and a conduit image region in the images is identified. The conduit image region may include a shallow section and/or a deep section. The shallow section includes a dimension of the conduit along an optical axis of the camera such that opacity of the fluids from redness associated with red blood cells or hemoglobin is limited to permit pixel color visualization in the images. The deep section includes a dimension is along the optical axis such that the redness provides a minimum opacity to permit the pixel color visualization. A concentration of a blood component of the fluids is determined based on the pixel color visualization. A volume of blood passing through the conduit is estimated based on the estimated concentration of the blood component and an estimated volumetric flow rate.

Methods and systems for characterizing fluids from a patient

A method for estimating extracorporeal blood volume in at least a portion of a fluid canister. A light source may be activated, and an image of the fluid canister is captured with an optical sensor. The image may be a color frame of a video stream. A color-related feature is extracted from at least a portion of the image. A concentration of hemoglobin is estimated based on the extracted color-related feature. A fluid level of fluid within the fluid canister may be estimated from the image. Extracorporeal blood volume based on the estimated concentration of hemoglobin and a fluid volume or the estimated fluid level. The estimated extracorporeal blood volume is displayed on a display. The estimated extracorporeal blood volume and the estimated fluid level may be monitored over time. The optical sensor may be disposed on a handheld mobile device mounted to a side of the fluid canister.

System and method for estimating extracorporeal blood volume in a physical sample

A system performs a method for characterizing passage of a patient fluid through a conduit. The method includes quantifying flow of fluidic content through a conduit, where the fluidic content includes a patient fluid, estimating a concentration of a fluid component of the patient fluid in the fluidic content, and characterizing passage of the patient fluid loss through the conduit based on the quantified flow and the concentration of the fluid component. At least one of the quantified flow or the concentration of the fluid component is based on sensor data from a sensor arrangement coupled to the conduit. Systems and methods for inline fluid characterization

A method and system for communicating estimated blood loss parameters of a patient to a user, the method comprising: receiving data representative of an image, of a fluid receiver; automatically detecting a region within the image associated with a volume of fluid received at the fluid receiver, the volume of fluid including a blood component; calculating an estimated amount of the blood component present in the volume of fluid based upon a color parameter represented in the region, and determining a bias error associated with the estimated amount of the blood component; updating an analysis of an aggregate amount of the blood component and an aggregate bias error associated with blood loss of the patient, based upon the estimated amount of the blood component and the bias error; and providing information from the analysis of the aggregate amount of the blood component and the aggregate bias error, to the user.

Method for estimating a quantity of a blood component in a fluid receiver and corresponding error

A machine accesses a first image captured prior to initiation of a procedure, where the first image depicts a set of instruments, as well as a second image captured after initiation of the procedure, where the second image depicts a proper subset of the set of instruments depicted in the first image. From the first and second images, the machine may determine that an instrument among the set of instruments depicted in the first image is not depicted among the proper subset of the set of instruments in the second image, and then cause presentation of a notification that indicates the instrument not depicted in the second image is missing. Alternatively, or additionally, the machine may determine whether an instrument among the set of instruments was used in the procedure, and then cause presentation of a notification that indicates whether the instrument was used in the procedure.

A computer-implemented method and system for estimating fluid loss. A graphical representation of a container is displayed. User inputs to display elements may include incrementing or decrementing sliding markers to desired set positions. A first user input may indicate a volume of a second fluid, and a second user input may indicate a total volume of fluid. A first volume of a first fluid may be estimated based on the first and second user inputs. A graphical representation of the first volume of the first fluid may be displayed as a fluid level within the graphical representation of the container. A second volume of the first fluid contained in an absorbent article may be estimated based on a difference between a dry weight and a wet weight measured on a scale. A quantity of the first fluid may be estimated based on the first and second volumes.

Fluid loss estimation of medical items

Systems and methods for assessing a flow of fluids suctioned from a patient. The flow of fluids may be divided according to a flow division ratio. An image of a first portion of the fluids may be evaluated to determine an estimated blood component quantity as a representative fraction of the flow of fluids. An intermittent estimate of blood loss may be determined based on the flow division ratio and the estimated blood component quantity, and a total estimate of blood loss updated based on the intermittent estimate. The representative fraction is projected or extended to be an estimated blood component quantity of the second portion of the fluids that bypasses the receptacle. The images may be continuously captured with a camera, and a fluid level of the fluids with a receptable may be continuously monitored. The total estimate of blood loss may be displayed in real-time on a display.

Systems and methods for assessing fluids from a patient

Systems and methods for estimating a blood volume within a canister. The system may include means for detecting a fluid level of the fluid, such as a float sensor mechanism disposed within the canister. An imaging device captures an image of the fluid within the canister. A processor determines an estimated concentration of a blood component in the fluid based on the image. The processor determines a canister volume of the fluid based on the detected fluid level, and estimates the blood volume within the canister based on the estimated concentration of the blood component and the determined canister volume. The processor may trigger the imaging device to capture the image based on a change in the canister volume. An insert may be arranged within the canister and positioned adjacent to and offset from a transparent region of the canister.

Systems and methods for estimating a blood volume within a canister

Described herein are methods and systems for tracking surgical items. The methods may be performed by one or more processors, and may include receiving a first count of surgical items, receiving one or more images, wherein each image is a field of view comprising one or more surgical items, determining a second count of surgical items based at least in part on the one or more received images, and providing a notification based on the comparison between the first count of surgical items and the second count of surgical items.

Systems and methods for tracking surgical items

A system performs a method for processing an image of a machine-readable code. The method includes receiving an image of a machine-readable code comprising coded information, where the machine-readable code is at least partially obscured. An adjusted image is generated by adjusting a color space of the image. At least a machine-readable code region of the image is binarized, wherein the machine-readable code region of the image depicts the machine-readable code. Methods and systems for processing an image

Methods for characterizing fluids from a patient. A time series of images of a conduit are received, and a conduit image region in the images is identified. A flow type of the fluids passing through the conduit may be classified as one of air, laminar liquid, and turbulent liquid by evaluating an air-liquid boundary of the fluid. A volumetric flow rate of the fluids in the conduit is estimated. The volumetric flow rate may be based on the classified flow type. A concentration of a blood component of the fluids passing through the conduit may be estimated based on the images. A proportion of the fluid that is blood may also be determined, and a volume of blood that has passed through the conduit within a predetermined period of time may be estimated based on the estimated total volumetric flow rate and the determined proportion.

A computer-implemented method for tracking surgical textiles includes receiving a first image comprising a first textile-depicting image region, receiving a second image comprising a second textile-depicting image region, measuring a likelihood that the first and second image regions depict at least a portion of the same textile, and incrementing an index counter if the measure of likelihood does not meet a predetermined threshold. The measure of likelihood may be based on at least one classification feature at least partially based on aspects or other features of the first and second images.

A variation of a method for estimating a quantity of a blood component in a fluid canister includes: within an image of a canister, identifying a reference marker on the canister; selecting an area of the image based on the reference marker; correlating a portion of the selected area with a fluid level within the canister; estimating a volume of fluid within the canister based on the fluid level; extracting a feature from the selected area; correlating the extracted featured with a concentration of a blood component within the canister; and estimating a quantity of the blood component within the canister based on the estimated volume and the concentration of the blood component within the canister.

Method for estimating blood component quantities in surgical textiles

A method for estimating extracorporeal blood volume in at least a portion of a physical sample. A feature is extracted from an image of the physical sample. The extracorporeal blood volume in the portion of the physical sample is estimated. The estimation may be based on the extracted feature and at least one of the estimated distance and the estimated angle between a capture origin of the image and the portion of the physical sample based on a returned signal transmitted from a distance sensor. The estimated extracorporeal blood volume may be displayed on a display, such an augmented reality overlay in which the image of the portion of the physical sample is displayed with at least one of the estimated extracorporeal blood volume or a sample counter. The sample counter may be indexed for the physical sample after estimating the extracorporeal blood volume.
