Examples of system for ambient aversive sound detection, identification and management are described. The system comprises an earpiece device with a microphone configured to capture ambient sound around a user and sample it into small segments of the ambient sound, a speaker and a regulator to regulate the ambient sound segment transmitted to the speaker. The system further comprises a processing unit that identifies aversive ambient sound signals in the captured sound segment and provide recommendation action to manage the aversive sound signal by removing, supressing, attenuating or masking the aversive signals.

System and method for ambient noise detection, identification and management

Examples of a device for guiding and detecting a motion of a target joints and a motion assistance system such motion guiding devices are described. The motion guiding and detecting device comprises a motion generator and a motion transfer and target interfacing unit to transfer the motion generated by the motion generator to the target joint. The system further includes a motion detection and feedback unit that interfaces with the target, and a controller that interfaces with both the feedback unit and the motion generator to control and coordinate the motion of the motion generator and the target joint.

System and device for guiding and detecting motions of 3-DOF rotational target joint

A device, called expandable spacer, for improving the efficacy of drug delivery in metered dose inhalers is described. The device has a body made of flexible (might be expandable) material. It can shrink in size when it is not in use and can go back to its normal shape and size when it is used. The device further comprises a valve (can be one way valve) that helps the drug to be maintained inside the spacer's cavity and opens during inhalation and closes during exhalation.

An inflatable cushion for body support is described. The inflatable cushion can be adjusted to manually/automatically set the proper pressure distribution, remove pressure from sensitive regions, alternate pressure, facilitate moisture removal, automatically detect leakage and avoid bottom down, communicate leakage and other problems with the user/caregiver, detect wrong positioning and facilitate position correction. The inflatable cushion can be used either as a chair cushion such as for example as a cushion for wheelchair or as a bed mattress.

Examples of a self-supported device for guiding motions of a target joint of a target body are disclosed. The device comprises a motion generator, a motion transfer system, a target body interfacing system, a load bearing system and a controller. The load bearing system comprises a plate connected to the motion transfer system and a network of joints and links configured to constrain the plate to rotate in three dimensions about a center of rotation of the load bearing system. A position of the center of rotation of the load bearing system being adjustable by adjusting a connection point between the links. The plate of the load bearing system is connected to an adjustable target body interfacing system that is configured to be mounted to the target body. The center of rotation of the load bearing system coincides (or nearly coincides) with a center of rotation of the target joint of the target body.

Self-supported device for guiding motions of a passive target system

A bicycle with a suspension system for a wheel of the bicycle, the suspension system including a smart fluid damper for dampening a movement of the wheel relative to the frame. The smart fluid damper includes a flow control element disposed within a cavity of the damper and configured to apply a field to a smart fluid within a fluid passage extending through the flow control element. The flow control element includes field barriers proximate the fluid passage to locally block and/or divert the field such that the field cannot pass therethrough. The field barriers are arranged to cause the field to criss-cross the fluid passage at multiple axial intervals along the fluid passage, thereby focusing the field within the fluid passage.

Smart fluid damper

A smart fluid damper includes a damper body defining a cavity with smart fluid. A piston head is disposed within the cavity and is slidingly displaceable. A flow control element is disposed within the cavity. The flow control element includes a main body having a central core, and an outer housing that surrounds the main body and is spaced apart therefrom to define a fluid passage between the main body and the outer housing. The fluid passage extends axially through the main body to permit fluid flow therethrough. The central core includes an energizable coil operable to apply a field. A plurality of field barriers are provided, each operable to locally block the field generated by the energizable coil such that the field cannot pass directly therethrough. The field barriers are configured to focus the field within the fluid passage.

Examples of a motion system are disclosed. The motion system comprises a plurality of Stewart platform based actuators connected one to each another forming a desired modular configuration. Each of the plurality of actuators is controlled by a central controller that is configured to independently control the plurality actuators and adjust in real time their position, orientation and motion trajectory. The plurality of actuators are arranged in the desired configuration, shape and size to provide motion system that can mimic a natural motion/gait of human or animal body.

A system for preventing fall-related injuries is described. The system comprises a re-useable airbag which can be mounted on a wheelchair, power chair, stroller or scooter or can be design as a hip protector to be put on a waist of a wearer. The system further comprises a fall detection unit that can automatically trigger inflation of the airbag system in case of a fall.

An airbag device includes an airbag comprising foam bulk at least partially surrounded by a flexible membrane, the airbag compressible from a second volume to a first volume; a locking mechanism for maintaining the airbag compressed to the first volume; a one-way valve openable to deliver air to the airbag when the locking mechanism is released; and wherein when the locking mechanism is released, the airbag expands.

Inflation method and apparatus for an airbag

An intelligent dental handpiece control system is disclosed. The handpiece includes a sensor which detects a vibration, sound, force or torque frequency/time signal produced by the handpiece in use and signal processor which produces or determines secondary signal characteristics such as the handpiece torque, force or angular velocity. A controller analyzes the secondary signal characteristics and produces a control signal which controls or stops the angular velocity of the dental handpiece in order to avoid overdrilling of healthy tooth material or damaging the nerves in the jaw during dental implant operations. The controller may also provide a warning signal to the user and/or control the angular velocity of the handpiece.
