Systems and methods for detection of biological agents are generally described. Certain embodiments relate to circuits comprising a first semiconductor nanosensor and a second semiconductor nanosensor in electrical communication with the first semiconductor nanosensor. The circuit can be configured to output a differential electrical property between the first semiconductor nanosensor and the second semiconductor nanosensor when exposed to a sample comprising an analyte. In certain instances, the first semiconductor nanosensor is functionalized with a detector species, and the second semiconductor nanosensor is not functionalized with the detector species. In some cases, the first semiconductor nanosensor is functionalized with a detector species, and the second semiconductor nanosensor is associated with a gate.

Differential sensor measurement methods and structures

Aspects of the present disclosure provide measurement devices and methods for detecting electrical characteristics of devices under test (DUTs), such as semiconductor nanowires. Techniques described herein provide programmable measurement devices that may be implemented in a compact form factor while being able to perform reliable measurements. In some embodiments, measurement devices described herein may be programmed to modulate signals for transmitting to a DUT, and may demodulate signals from the DUTs adaptively using self-programming techniques described herein. Such self-programming may include applying a programmable phase delay to oscillator signals used during demodulation. In some embodiments, such measurement devices may be implemented on a single circuit board, in a single integrated circuit package, or even on a single solid-state semiconductor die. Techniques described herein may enable reliable, inexpensive, and small-scale fluid sample measurement devices.

Adaptive programmable modulation techniques for miniaturized measurement devices

A nanoelectric field effect sensor uses the field created by the surface charge profile of biomolecular binding to modulate the current flowing between a source and a drain. We have shown that a patterned side or top gate can be used to calibrate the biomolecular field modulation. This approach provides an electrical sensitivity characterization of the sensor before exposing it to sample fluid. Furthermore, a side gate or a top gate voltage with the right sign can be used to control the binding event during functionalization or sensing. For instance, a negative gate voltage can prevent binding of negatively charged proteins on a sensor. This approach of electric-field control of binding can be used in a differential sensor configuration as well. For instance, in a two-sensor single-bridge technique, one of the sensors can be exposed to a local electric field to prevent binding events, which can then be used for background cancellation in a second sensor, not exposed to the electric field. Furthermore, this approach can be used to prepare a sensor chip for multiplexing, where different chip areas can be turned on or off by applying local electric fields.

Field-controlled sensor architecture and related methods

This application describes a novel approach of wireless charging or powering of a sensor-based device used for in vivo diagnosis and monitoring. In addition to implantable or subcutaneous devices, this approach can also be used for wireless charging of wearable and handheld devices. Specifically, this application describes charging of diagnostic and monitoring devices used for disease detection and management. More specifically, this application describes a method to wirelessly power integrated devices designed to detect or monitor analytes (e.g. biological or chemical species) and release drugs into the body in response to a specific change in the body's vitals, detected by the device.

Systems and methods for detection of biological agents are generally described. Target biological agents may be detected by use of a sensor, which in some situations is a nanowire. An external electric field is applied in some embodiments to induce an electric dipole. The induced electric dipole is detected, allowing detection of the biological agent.

The present invention generally relates to nanoantenna arrays and fabrication methods of said nanoantenna arrays. In particular, one aspect relates to nanoantenna arrays including nanostructures of predefined shapes in predefined patterns, which results in collective excitement of surface plasmons. The nanoantenna arrays can be used for spectroscopy and nanospectroscopy. Another aspects of the present invention relate to a method of high-throughput fabrication of nanoantenna arrays includes fabricating a reusable nanostencil for nanostensil lithography (NSL) which provides a mask to deposit materials onto virtually any support, such as flexible and thin-film stretchable supports. The nanostencil lithography methods enable high quality, high-throughput fabrication of nanostructures on conducting, non-conducting and magnetic supports. The nanostencil can be prepared by etching nanoapertures of predefined patterns into a waffer or ceramic membrane. In some embodiments, a nanoantenna array includes plasmonic nanostructures or non-plasmonic nanostructures.
