A variable reluctance resolver has a stator combined with a housing. The resolver does not require extra space in a case for a device, into which the resolver is mounted, and it is easily coaxially mounted to the device. The resolver includes a ring-like stator, a rotor, and a housing. The statorhas a stator core, a first insulator, a second insulator, and coils. The stator coreis provided with plural salient poles. The first insulatorand the second insulatorhold the stator coretherebetween from both sides of the stator core. The coilsare wound to the salient polesvia the first insulatorand the second insulator.
