Systems and methods of optimizing a new well path using a minimum curvature method are disclosed. An arc of the new well path may include a change in curvature at a point along the length of the arc. The arc of the new well path may be determined by iteratively: selecting a length of a first arc portion of the arc; determining a length of a second arc portion of the arc according to a minimum curvature method; combining the first arc portion and the second arc portion to form an arc; determining a deviation of the arc relative to a planned well trajectory; and selecting the arc with the lowest deviation from the planned well trajectory.

Geomodel-driven dynamic well path optimization

A planetary gearbox including a first planetary gear assembly and a second planetary gear assembly. The first planetary gear assembly includes a first sun gear, a first carrier, at least one first planet gear mounted in the first carrier, and a ring gear. The second planetary gear assembly includes a second sun gear, a second carrier, at least one second planet gear mounted in the second carrier, and the ring gear. The ring gear comprises a unitary, single-piece main body including a plurality of first teeth and a plurality of second teeth formed thereon. The first teeth are spaced apart from the second teeth to form a channel therebetween. The channel is configured to receive a bushing therein.

The first planetary gear assembly includes a first sun gear, a first carrier, at least one first planet gear mounted in the first carrier, and a ring gear. The second planetary gear assembly includes a second sun gear, a second carrier, at least one second planet gear mounted in the second carrier, and the ring gear. The disconnect assembly includes a disconnect member and a connecting member. The disconnect member is coupled to the second carrier of the second planetary gear assembly, and the connecting member is coupled to both the disconnect member and the movable second sun gear.

Petrographic data of a carbonate reservoir in a subterranean region is received. Mud content of the carbonate reservoir is determined based on the petrographic data. A depositional porosity of the carbonate reservoir is computed based on the mud content. An amount of cementation of the carbonate reservoir is determined. A porosity loss by compaction of the carbonate reservoir is determined based on the mud content and the amount of cementation of the carbonate reservoir. A post-compaction porosity of the carbonate reservoir is computed based on the depositional porosity, the mud content, the amount of cementation, and the porosity loss by compaction.

Predicting carbonate porosity based on petrographic data

A planetary wheel drive uses: main bushings affixed to a rotatable housing between a stationary spindle permitting the rotatable output housing to rotate with respect to the stationary spindle, and, planet bushings affixed to rotatable planet gear between a planet pin permitting the planet gear to rotate with respect to the planet pin. The main bushings have two sides, a first side which is press fit into the rotatable output housing and a second side which includes a sliding layer which mates with a surface of the stationary housing.

Changes in capillary pressure and relative permeabilities in reactive transport codes or reservoir simulators are formed by computer modeling. Based on continuum-scale hydraulic properties, the pore size distribution (PSD) is determined from a capillary pressure curve using the capillary tube concept. Changes in mineral volume through equilibrium or kinetic mineral reactions are then translated to changes in pore radii of the pore size distribution by selectively changing the radii of water occupied pores. The resulting new pore size distribution is converted back to an updated capillary pressure curve, which is then used for determining and forming models of total permeability and relative permeabilities at the continuum scale.

An electric wheel motor cooling system includes first and second electric wheel motors and gear reducers which use hydraulic fluid for cooling and lubrication. Each of the electric wheel motor housings includes a sump and a scavenge pump for return of hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic fluid reservoir. A remotely located hydraulic pump interconnected with the hydraulic fluid reservoir supplies and powers first and second locally located hydraulic motors which supply the electric motors and gears with an equal flow of lubricating and cooling oil. The first and second hydraulic motors, in turn, drive a common output shaft which, in turn, drives first and second scavenge pumps. The first and second scavenge pumps have a higher fluid flow rate than the hydraulic motors ensuring that oil is removed from the first and second electric wheel motor housings thus eliminating any churning losses of the motors or gears.
