A mechanical control system comprising a master or a controller which is rotated in control operations, a slave or a controlled unit such as a rotary electric control component such as a variable resistor, and a mechanical power transmission means for interconnecting between the master and slave for transmitting the turning force of the master to the slave. The timer comprises an integrator consisting of an input resistor and a capacitor, a switching element, a MOS field-effect transistor, a discharge resistor, and a switching circuit operable in response to the magnitude of the drain current of the field-effect transistor; the field-transistor, the switching element, the capacitor and the discharge resistor being embedded or potted in a molded plastic insulation. The present invention discloses a mechanical pushbutton type pulse generating switch for use in a telephone set comprising, in general, pulse generating switch units, a push-break return-make switch unit, and an end pulse generating switch unit. The pulse generating switch unit has a common normally closed contact attached to one side surface of an operating or push-button shaft having a polygonal cross sectional configuration and a plurality of make-break contact groups attached to the remaining side surfaces of the operating shaft and brushes or wipers disposed in opposed relation with and for contact with the common and make-break contacts respectively. The push-break return-make switch unit circuit is connected in series to a parallel circuit consisting of the pulse generating switch unit circuit and the end pulse generating switch unit circuit. The push-break return-make switch unit is so arranged that the number pulses may be generated only in the return stroke of the operating shaft after the latter has been completely depressed, and the end pulse is generated immediately before the operating shaft is returned to its initial or inoperative position and immediately before the push-break return-make switch unit is opened.

A variable resistor is disclosed which may readily attain or reproduce a preset value. A wiper arm or plate is carried by an outer shaft for rotation with a wiper in sliding contact with a resistor so that the resistance value may be continuously varied in a conventional manner. In order to detect the angular position of the outer shaft where a preset value is obtained, a click mechanism is incorporated. A click spring of the click mechanism is fixed to a switching plate carried by an inner shaft fitted into the outer shaft for rotation therewith or independently thereof in case of presetting, and a ball loosely carried at the free end of the click spring is adapted to engage with a recess formed at a predetermined position of a stationary click plate so that the inner shaft may be stopped at a predetermined angular position. To preset, one rotates the outer shaft to a desired resistance value, and then while holding the outer shaft stationary, he rotates only the inner shaft until it is stopped by the click mechanism. After presetting, a preset value is readily reproduced when one rotates both the outer and inner shafts until and they are stopped by the click mechaism. Furthermore, the variable resistor incorporates a switch so arranged that when, and only when the inner shaft is stopped by the click mechanism, the switch is closed to turn on an indicator lamp.

A voltage memory device is disclosed wherein the gate of a MOS field-effect transistor is connected to one terminal of a capacitor and to an input voltage terminal through an input resistor and through the contacts of a reed relay while the source is connected to an output terminal and an output resistor, the input resistor being inserted in order to determine the charging time of the capacitor. When the reed relay is actuated, the capacitor is charged or discharged depending upon whether the input voltage terminal is connected to a positive or negative voltage supply source so that the output voltage increases or decreases. When the reed relay is de-energized, the output voltage remains at the same level. The voltage memory device has a function similar to that of the conventional variable resistors, but it eliminates the use of any sliding part and is operable at a relatively low voltage in a reliable and dependable manner. The voltage memory may be used in an automatic control system.

Herein disclosed is a variable resistor device which may be used as a tuner in an electric appliance such as a television receiver and a stereophonograph, which resistor device comprises a support member having a base wall portion and at least one end wall portion perpendicular to the base wall portion, an elongate resistance element on the inner face of the base wall portion, a control shaft rotatable on the end wall portion and having a threaded axial portion extending over the resistance element, a slider having a contact portion elastically forced against the resistance element and an edge portion in mating engagement with the threaded axial portion of the control shaft for providing electrical connection between the resistance element and the shaft, and an electrically conductive retainer for holding the control shaft in position relative to the support member while permitting the control shaft to rotate about its axis. Features of the device include ease of assemblage and reliability of operation.
