A process for the production of a poly(arylene thioether) containing phthalic anhydride groups wherein a dihalogen-substituted aromatic compound is reacted with an alkali metal sulfide in a polar organic solvent containing water to produce the poly(arylene thioether) is disclosed. This process comprises causing a monohalogen-substituted phthalic compound to exist in a polymerization reaction system, and controlling a ratio, a/b of the number of moles, a of the charged dihalogen-substituted aromatic compound to the number of moles, b of the charged alkali metal sulfide within a range of 0.8&lt;a/b&lt;1.

Disclosed herein are a polymer alloy prepared by polymerizing 0.1 to 100 parts by weight of at least one radically polymerizable monomer to 100 parts by weight of polyarylene thioether having a repeating unit of ##STR1## as a main constituent and at least a part of said radically polymerizable monomers is polymerized within inner pores of the polyarylene thioether particles and a process for producing the polymer alloy. The polymer alloy of polyarylene thioether according to the present invention has the fine particles of the radically polymerized monomer uniformly dispersed in the said polymer alloy, and accordingly, the polymer alloy of polyarylene thioether according to the present invention is excellent in various physical properties, such as, good impact strength and improved anti-flash property.

A film having high lubricity and excellent dielectric strength characteristics and containing few fish eyes is obtained by biaxially-stretching a resin composition which has been obtained by radical polymerization of 0.5-80 parts by weight of a monomer component composed principally of a styrene monomer in the presence of 100 parts by weight of particles of a substantially straight-chain poly(arylene sulfide) having a melt viscosity of at least 1,000 poises.

A laminar thermoplastic resin structure comprising a plurality of thermoplastic resin layers is obtained by bonding thermoplastic resin layers with a layer, or layers, of a maleic acid-modified block copolymer of a conjugated diene and an aromatic vinyl monomer interposed therebetween. The laminar structure thus obtained possesses a high bonding strength at elevated temperatures, and also excellent processability since the bonding layer per se is of thermoplastic nature. Thus, this laminar structure is particularly suitable as a material for use at elevated temperatures, for example, a packaging material for retort sterilization or a pipe for conducting hot fluids.

A muti-component graft copolymer comprises 50 to 80 wt. parts of an elastic component produced by an emulsion polymerization of 100 to 70 wt. % of a C.sub.2-12 alkyl acrylate and 0 to 30 wt. % of a comonomer having a single vinyl or vinylidene group and 50 to 20 wt. parts of a graft polymerized component produced by a graftpolymerization of 5 to 90 wt. % of a vinyl monomer having glycidyl group and 95 to 10 wt. % of a lower alkyl methacrylate, a lower alkyl acrylate, styrene, .alpha.-methyl styrene, methacrylonitrile, or acrylonitrile on the elastic component. A polymethyl methacrylate or polyvinyl chloride is blended to the multi-component graft copolymer.
