The present invention is drawn to systems and methods for suppressing damaging effects from dissolution of silica present in an ink-jet printhead which contains high pH, pigmented ink. The systems and methods suppress the damaging effects of dissolution of silica by the action of a basic ink by adding a metal ion to the ink composition which forms a complex with the silica. The metal ion passivates the silica thus retarding the dissolution of silica thereby reducing promotion of ink kogation, silicate ring formation, and silicate deposit on ink-jet printhead resistors which effectively improves durability and shelf life of the ink-jet printhead.

Reducing damaging effects of dissolution within an ink-jet printhead

An inkjet ink set includes eleven colored inks and a surface enhancing ink. The eleven colored inks include a magenta ink, a light magenta ink, a yellow ink, a cyan ink, a light cyan ink, a medium gray ink, a light gray ink, a photo black ink, a red ink, a green ink, and a blue ink. The surface enhancing ink is configured to enhance gloss of an image formed with at least one of the eleven colored inks.

Inkjet ink set

A gray ink composition includes an ink vehicle having a black pigment and at least one color pigment dispersed therein. An anionic dispersant is: a) dispersed in the ink vehicle; b) associated with at least a portion of a surface of at least one of the dispersed black pigment or the at least one dispersed color pigment; and/or c) combinations thereof. At least one of the black pigment or the color pigment(s) has an anionic surfactant that is associated with at least another portion of the surface thereof.

Gray ink composition and method of making the same

Ink additives that reduce the deceleration of inks containing a polymer, such as acrylate binders, are disclosed. In accordance with the invention, an ink-jet liquid, an ink-jet liquid set, and the method for using the same are provided, wherein the one of the liquids comprises an aqueous vehicle, and a deceleration-alleviating component. The present formulations are used to formulate ink-jet liquids, and more particularly, to provide enhanced drop ejection performance in inks containing a polymer, such as deceleration (rapid drop velocity degradation during continuous operation of the firing resistor), when the liquid contains a deceleration-alleviating agent, such as, an aromatic glycol ether, a polar solvent and a long alkyl chain surfactant.

Ink additives to improve decel

An ink jet inkset is provided for image printers, in particular large format printers, for printing on both porous, non-porous, and hybrid glossy media. The inket contains a black ink and one or more color inks, said color ink composition comprises at least one water-soluble dye and a vehicle comprising at least one co-solvent and at least two different surfactants, a non-ionic surfactant and a fluoro-surfactant. The total surfactant concentration ranges from about 0.05 to 6 wt % of the ink composition. The non-ionic surfactant is present in a range of about 0.05 to 3 wt % of the ink composition, while the fluoro-surfactant is present in a range of about 0.001 to 3 wt % of the ink composition. The ink formulation that works well with porous, non-porous, and hybrid glossy media and provides substantially instant ink drying and light fastness of the ink. Further, the ink formulation evidences excellent image quality. The ink can also pass harsh pen material compatibility tests. The ink does not puddle on the surface of the orifice plate in the default pen, yet has low viscosity. The ink is excellent in pen reliability such as long decap time, no decel, no kogation, and good drop directionality.

Inkset for graphic art ink jet image printers

The present invention is directed to aqueous based ink compositions for ink jet printing on offset media and offset ink comprising various combinations of nonionic surfactants. Such formulations include effective amounts of an ink colorant and a nonionic surfactant having an HLB value from about 4 to 14. Optionally, additional nonionic surfactants, solvents, and binders can be added. In another formulation, an effective amount of an ink colorant, at least two nonionic surfactants, each being present at from about 0.01% to 10% by weight (preferably 0.01% to 2% by weight) and an effective amount of at least one binder (such as an acrylate binder) is disclosed.

Aqueous ink jet inks for use with commercial offset media and offset ink

The present invention is directed to aqueous based ink compositions for ink jet printing on offset media and offset ink comprising combinations of dye-based and pigment-based colorants, and optionally surfactants. Optionally solvents and binders can be also added. In another formulation, an effective amount of the combination of ink colorants, at least one surfactant, being present at from about 0.1% to 1.5% by weight and an effective amount of at least one binder (such as an acrylate binder) is disclosed.

Color ink composition for graphic art ink jet image printers

A high gloss pigmented surface is formed in an inkjet printer by first applying a liquid pigmented ink in the form of a liquid suspension medium containing individual particles of pigment and a suitable binder onto a smooth surface of a sheet of print medium to thereby form a printed image, then drying (fixing) the printed image by evaporating or absorbing the suspension medium until the pigment has adhered to the smooth surface of the print medium in the form of clumps of particles having a rough top surface, and then heating the rough top surface until it has softened and flowed together to form a high gloss pigmented layer having a smooth upper surface. Preferably, a relatively low level of heat is applied for a relatively long time to the liquid ink and the print medium to thereby speed up the evaporating or absorption of the suspension medium, and then a relatively high level of heat is applied for a relative short period of time to heat the surface of the already fixed image without burning or distorting the underlying print media, thereby providing the image with the desired high gloss finish. In one practical embodiment, the ink is applied by an inkjet printing mechanism which applies and fixes the printed image as a sequence of individual horizontal image swaths, using unheated ambient temperature air to dry and fix each individual horizontal swath of the image as the ink is being applied, and the high heat level is produced by a jet of heated air directed against the upper surface of the print medium as a separate step after the entire image has been printed and fixed.
