A vehicle side airbag device includes: an inflator provided in a side portion on an outside, in a vehicle width direction, of a seat back of a vehicle seat, and generating gas by being activated when a vehicle side collision is detected or anticipated; and a side airbag provided in the side portion, and having front and rear bag portions, the side airbag being inflated and deployed by the gas from the inflator, a shoulder restraining portion provided in an upper portion of the rear bag portion being interposed between a shoulder of a seated occupant and a vehicle body side portion, and an inflated thickness in the vehicle width direction of a region that includes the shoulder restraining portion being expanded by an inflation-suppressing sewn portion applied to the region fraying or tearing due to an increase in internal pressure of the rear bag portion.

Vehicle side airbag device

A collision test apparatus includes actuators that move a vehicle structural member toward the side of a carrying unit on which a dummy is carried. The actuators can be driven independently of each other. Therefore, the actuators move the vehicle structural member at respectively different driving speeds. In other words, the collision test apparatus does not simply move the vehicle structural member such that the vehicle structural member collides with the dummy, but also causes the vehicle structural member to collide with the dummy while moving the vehicle structural member at different speeds in different positions.

A pressure sensor, which detects a pressure in a space close to an inner side of an exterior member of a vehicle, and an occupant protecting device, which protects an occupant inside a vehicle are provided. An electronic control unit determines an occurrence of collision in the case where the pressure and a change per unit time of the pressure each satisfy a collision condition, and then makes the occupant protecting device operate. At this time, the collision condition is set to restrict the determination indicative of an occurrence of collision unless the change per unit time of the pressure is larger with lowering the pressure.

A curtain airbag of a curtain airbag system includes a gas supply passage that extends in a longitudinal direction in an upper portion of the airbag and guides gas from an inflator toward the front of the vehicle, a front main chamber deployed downward in the event of a side impact or rollover when supplied with gas from the gas supply passage, a front auxiliary chamber deployed when supplied with gas from the gas supply passage or the front main chamber at least in the event of rollover, and an uninflatable portion (gas-flow guide portion) that blocks forward gas flow at a front side of a gas passage communicating with the gas supply passage and the front main chamber, and guides the gas to the front main chamber.

Curtain airbag system

A curtain airbag system for a vehicle is stored in a folded state in a roof side portion, and includes a gas supply passage to be deployed along the roof side portion, a rear main chamber that is inflated and deployed below the gas supply passage in the event of a side impact or rollover of the vehicle, with gas supplied through the gas supply passage, a rear auxiliary chamber that is deployed at a front side of the rear main chamber in the event of at least rollover, with gas supplied through the gas supply passage or the rear main chamber, and a concave deployment portion having a looped line that restricts deployment of a part of the rear auxiliary chamber or a part of a space between the rear auxiliary chamber and the gas supply passage as seen in a side view.
