A decoloring type heat sensitive image recording material comprises a transparent support and a heat sensitive layer provided thereon. The heat sensitive layer contains color particles and a hydrophilic binder. The color particles are dispersed in the hydrophilic binder. The color particles are formed by a reaction of a leuco dye with a phenol developer. The heat sensitive layer substantially does not contain particles of a decoloring agent. The heat sensitive layer can be decolored in such a manner that a thermal energy applied to the image recording material causes a reaction of the color particles with the hydrophilic binder to decolor the particles, and that the decolored state is kept at room temperature. A process of recording an image by decoloring the heat sensitive material is also disclosed.

Decoloring type heat sensitive image recording material

A light-sensitive microcapsule contains silver halide, a reducing agent, an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable compound and a color image forming substance. Another light-sensitive microcapsule contains a photopolymerization initiator, an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable compound and a color image forming substance. The microcapsules are prepared by a process comprising the steps of emulsifying an oily phase containing the silver halide, the reducing agent, the polymerizable compound and the color image forming substance (or an oily phase containing the photopolymerization initiator, the polymerizable compound and the color image forming substance) in an aqueous medium containing a water-soluble polymer in water; and forming the shell around the droplets of the oily phase. In the process of the present invention, the oily phase is emulsified in the aqueous medium by mixing the oily phase and the aqueous medium; supplying the mixture to a clearance of not larger than 5 mm between an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder; passing the mixture through the clearance while rotating the outer cylinder and/or the inner cylinder. Light-sensitive materials prepared by using the light-sensitive microcapsules are also disclosed.

Process for preparation of light-sensitive microcapsule

A process for preparation of a light-sensitive material containing microcapsules is disclosed. The light-sensitive material comprises a light-sensitive layer provided on a support. The microcapsules are dispersed in the light-sensitive layer. The process of the present invention comprises the steps of: (1) mixing a silver halide emulsion and the reducing agent or the photopolymerization initiator with the polymerizable compound to prepare a light-sensitive composition; (2) emulsifying the composition in an aqueous medium to prepare an aqueous emulsion; (3) forming a shell around the droplets of the composition contained in the aqueous emulsion to prepare a microcapsule dispersion; (4) coagulating the aqueous medium to set the microcapsule dispersion; (5) storing the set microcapsule dispersion; (6) melting the aqueous medium to prepare a coating solution of the light-sensitive layer; and (7) coating the solution on the support. Between the steps (2) and (3), the process preferably further contains the steps of: (a) precipitating the droplets of the light-sensitive composition in the aqueous emulsion; (b) removing at least 50% of the supernatant medium from the droplets; and (c) emulsifying the droplets in an aqueous medium again.

An image-forming method comprises: imagewise exposing to light a light-sensitive material comprising a support and a light-sensitive layer which contains silver halide, a reducing agent and an ethylenic unsaturated polymerizable compound; and simultaneously or thereafter developing the light-sensitive material to imagewise polymerize the polymerizable compound. The light-sensitive material is developed by heating the light-sensitive material at a temperature of not lower than 50.degree. C. under such a condition that the light-sensitive layer contains a liquid in an amount of 10 to 400 wt. % based on the amount of the polymerizable compound.

Image-forming method using silver halide and polymerizable compound

A light-sensitive image forming method using a recording element which comprises a recording layer on a support is disclosed. The recording layer contains at least two active components of a photopolymerizable composition such as a polymerizable compound and a polymerization initiator, both of which are essential for a photopolymerization reaction. The components are separated from each other by the shell of microcapsules in such manner that at least one component is contained in the microcapsules which are dispersed in the recording layer and the other component is arranged outside of the microcapsule. The image forming method comprises the steps of: heating the recording element to form the photopolymerizable composition in the recording layer; and imagewise exposing to light the recording element to imagewise polymerize the photopolymerizable composition. When the recording element is heated, the component outside of the microcapsules are brought into contact with the component in the microcapsules by permeation of at least one of the components through the shell of the microcapsules. Heat-sensitive image forming methods are also disclosed.
