An exemplary liquid crystal display (LCD) provides data lines, gate lines, and pixel units arranged as a matrix array. A method for driving the LCD includes a step of analyzing and determining polarities of one column of the pixel units as determining pixels, thereby defining a first polarity group and a second polarity group, and a step of sequentially applying corresponding data signals to a part of the whole pixel units that are arranged at same rows with the first polarity group in a part of a period of a frame. Corresponding data signals are sequentially applied to the other part of the whole pixel units that are arranged at same rows with the second polarity group in another part of a period of a frame.

An exemplary data driving circuit includes a data register, a counter, and a comparator. The data register is configured for receiving serial gray level signals in turn, and outputting the plurality of gray level signals in parallel. The counter is configured for outputting counting signals. The comparator is configured for receiving the gray level signals and the counting signals, and outputting pulse voltage signals according to the gray level signals and the counting signals. A variety of duty ratios of the pulse voltage signals correspond to a variety of gray levels.

The backlight adjusting system includes a first calculator, a processor and a driver. The first calculator calculates a target display brightness value of the display panel based on an actual ambient brightness value of the ambient light, a predetermined optimal ambient brightness value of the ambient light, and a predetermined optimal display brightness value of the display panel determined according to the predetermined optimal ambient brightness value. The processor obtains a target pulse duty value based on the target display brightness value. The driver generates a driving signal based on the target pulse duty value utilizing pulse width modulation techniques for driving the light emitting element so as to adjust the backlight brightness of the light emitting element.

A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel, a gray scale correction circuit, a control circuit, and a data driver. The gray scale correction circuit provides a corrected red, green, blue (RGB) data set corresponding to a white image element.
