Provided is an optical laminate having excellent resistance to the pressure from the surface and a display device including the same. The optical laminate includes a surface protective layer, a first pressure sensitive adhesive layer, a light absorption anisotropic layer, and a second pressure sensitive adhesive layer in this order, in which an indentation elastic modulus of the first pressure sensitive adhesive layer is greater than an indentation elastic modulus of the light absorption anisotropic layer, the light absorption anisotropic layer is a layer formed of a composition for forming a light absorption anisotropic layer containing a liquid crystal compound and a dichroic substance, and a thickness of the light absorption anisotropic layer is less than 5 μm.

Optical laminate and display device

Provided is an optical laminate with excellent durability and an image display device formed of the optical laminate. The optical laminate includes a pressure sensitive adhesive layer, a specific laminate including a resin layer and a light absorption anisotropic layer which are adjacent to each other, and a pressure sensitive adhesive layerin order, in which the light absorption anisotropic layer contains a dichroic substance, the pressure sensitive adhesive layeris adjacent to the resin layer of the specific laminate, and a storage elastic modulus Ep of the pressure sensitive adhesive layerand a storage elastic modulus Ea and a moist heat strain δa of the resin layer satisfy Expression (1-1) ¼ (3×Ep/Ea)>δa.

Optical laminate and image display device

Provided is an image display device including an optical laminate having, in order, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, a specific laminate including an alignment layer and an optically anisotropic layer which are adjacent to each other, and another pressure-sensitive adhesive layer in this order, in which the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers are adjacent to the two surfaces of the specific laminate. The specific laminate has a thickness of 15 &#x3bc;m or less, the optically anisotropic layer has a thickness of 5 &#x3bc;m or less, and a thickness d of the alignment layer and an elastic modulus E of the alignment layer satisfy Expression (1): &#x2212;E+0.45&#xd7;d+3.6&#x3e;0 (1), where d is in units of &#x3bc;m, and E is in units of GPa.

A polarizing plate includes: a polymer film; a polarizer; and a stress relaxation layer disposed between the polymer film and the polarizer, wherein a relationship of the following Expression (1) is satisfied, a thickness of the polymer film is equal to or greater than 10 &#x3bc;m, a distance(Ds) from the surface of the polarizing plate on the side of the polymer film to the interface between the polymer film and the stress relaxation layer is equal to or greater than 15 &#x3bc;m, a difference between the distance(Ds) and a thickness(C) of the polymer film is less than 15 &#x3bc;m, and a total thickness of the polymer film and the stress relaxation layer is equal to or less than 80 &#x3bc;m, 0.01&#x3c;B/A&#x3c;0.9 . . . Polarizing plate, image display apparatus, and liquid crystal display apparatus

A polarizing plate includes an outer protective film and a polarizer. The sum S of the product of the modulus of elasticity and the cube of the thickness in each layer is up to 150,000 Pa&#xb7;mm, and the value obtained by dividing the sum S by the Knoop hardness k of the outer protective film is 200 or more but up to 450. The polarizing plate is excellent in surface pencil hardness even when its thickness is reduced.
