An imaging system includes a transfer roller having a surface to transfer a toner image onto a print medium during a printing operation of the imaging system, a conductive device to contact the surface of the transfer roller, a power source electrically connected to the conductive device, a resistance measurement device, and a controller. The transfer roller rotates according to a printing speed of the printing operation. The power source supplies a bias to the transfer roller through the conductive device during the printing operation. The resistance measurement device measures an electrical resistance of the print medium. The controller reduces the printing speed based on the electrical resistance measured by the resistance measurement device.

An imaging system includes a transfer roller, a bias application device, and a controller. The transfer roller forms a transfer nip region between the transfer roller and a transfer belt, and the transfer roller transfers toner images carried on the transfer belt, onto media conveyed through the transfer nip region, during a print job. The bias application device applies a bias to the transfer roller. The controller controls the bias application device to apply a first bias to the transfer roller so that the toner image is transferred to a first medium during the printing job, apply a second bias having a polarity opposite to the first bias to the transfer roller between the first medium and a second medium following the first medium, and apply a third bias having the same polarity as the first bias to the transfer roller between the first medium and the second medium.

An imaging apparatus includes a transfer belt, a transfer roller, a conductive roller, and a power source. The transfer roller includes a metal shaft electrically floating during an imaging operation. The conductive roller has an electrical resistance lower than an electrical resistance of the transfer roller. The power source is electrically connected to the conductive roller, and the power source includes a first supply path to supply a first electrical bias to the conductive roller during an imaging operation and a second supply path to supply a second electrical bias to the transfer roller during a cleaning operation.

An imaging system includes an image carrier to carry a toner image, and a transfer medium having a transfer surface to receive the toner image from the image carrier. The transfer surface of the transfer medium has a resistance component of 14.6 to 17.7 log &#x3a9;&#xb7;cm for an alternating current having a frequency range of 1 mHz to 1 Hz.

Imaging system

A device for removing toner attached to a transfer roller in an image forming apparatus is disclosed. The device includes a bar brush to contact an outer circumferential surface of the transfer roller, where the bar brush extends along a part of a longitudinal length of the transfer roller. The device includes an elongated cleaning member to contact the outer circumferential surface of the transfer roller, where the elongated cleaning member extends along the longitudinal length, entirely, of the transfer roller.

Toner removal from transfer roller

An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable cylindrical component to be cleaned, and a bar brush having a base substrate and bristles. The base substrate of the bar brush is located at a fixed position relative to the component to be cleaned. The bristles extend from the base substrate to contact the component to be cleaned. The bristles have free ends that form a tip end surface of the bar brush. The tip end surface has a curved shape that conforms with a surface of the component, when the bristles are not in contact with the surface to be cleaned.

Image forming apparatus

A guide device includes a plate on which a first medium is to be placed, and provided above a space in which a container is to be inserted, a moving member that moves along a surface of the plate in a supply direction of the first medium or in an opposite direction, a substantially sheetlike guide member that guides the first medium in the supply direction, and a drawing member that draws the moving member toward the plate. When the container is taken out of the space, the moving member is drawn toward the plate in the opposite direction by the drawing member, and the guide member withdraws to a position superposed on the plate. When the container is inserted in the space, the moving member is pushed in the supply direction by the container, and the guide member protrudes from the position in the supply direction.
