A retention device for retaining a combination of a daughter card and a heat sink mounted on the daughter card to an electrical connector comprises a pair of retention mechanisms positioned on opposite ends of the electrical connector. Each retention device includes a base and a wall upwardly extending from the base. The wall defines a pair of vertical grooves which divide the wall into a pair of sidewall portions and a central wall portion. A pair of central blades and a pair of side blades inwardly extend from the central wall portion and the sidewall portions, respectively. The central wall portion of each retention mechanism forms a push bar at a free end thereof. The central wall portion and the central blades of each retention mechanism are outwardly flexible under a lower force, relative to the sidewall portions, and then revert to lock the daughter card and the heat sink to the electrical connector. Furthermore, each central blade forms a stopper laterally extending from a bottom edge thereof toward a proximate side blade to exert an ejecting force on a bottom edge of the heat sink when the central wall portion is deflected outward during ejection of the daughter card.

Retention device

A PCMCIA connector includes an insulative header retaining contact elements therein and a shielding casing having a top panel attached to the header. The shielding casing has two side panels extending from the top panel for defining a primary space adapted to receive a type I or type II PCMCIA card. A raised section is formed on the top panel and has a top wall located above the top panel. Two side walls extend from the top wall and are connected to the top panel thereby defining a secondary space in communication with and substantially continuous with the primary space whereby the primary and secondary spaces together can accommodate a type III PCMCIA card. A dummy card is selectively received in the secondary space without interfering with insertion of the type I or type II PCMCIA card into the primary space. The dummy card includes a flat body receivable in the secondary space and defines a recess in which a panel is pivotally supported for selectively shielding the primary and secondary spaces. The flat body has two resilient arms each forming a projection for engaging with a hole defined in a corresponding side wall of the raised section thereby retaining the dummy card in the secondary space.

PCMCIA connector

An IC card connector apparatus comprises a main body and a socket mounted on a motherboard. The main body includes two stacked housings and a locator proximate the housings. A number of terminals in two sets are disposed in the two housings and arranged in two arrays in the locator. The socket includes an insulative housing which forms a number of passageways and receives a corresponding number of contacts therein. In assembly, the locator is inserted into the socket.

IC card connector apparatus

An IC card connector apparatus comprises a header connector (,) and a pair of electrical sockets (,) respectively mounted on upper and lower surfaces of a circuit board (,). The header connector includes an insulative housing (,) defining a space (,) for receiving an IC card (,) therein. The housing has a mating face (,) adjacent to the space and a mounting face (,) opposite the mating face. Two arrays of terminals (,) are retained in the housing and extend through the mating face and the mounting face. Each socket includes an insulative housing (,) and a number of contacts (,) connected to the circuit board by surface mount technology. In installation, the terminals of the header connector are inserted into the sockets and mate with the corresponding contacts thereof. Thus, signals can be reliably transmitted between the IC card received in the header connector and the circuit board.

A card connector has a header connector, a shielding mounted on the header connector and forming an arced guiding section and a rectangular guiding section, a push rod reciprocably mounted on the shielding for receiving a push force, a lever pivotably mounted on the shielding and having a first end drivably connected with the push rod and a second end slidably engaging with the arced guiding section and an elongate card ejecting plate including a middle tab drivably connected with the lever, a guiding tab slidably engaging with the rectangular guiding section, two card engaging tabs for exerting a card ejecting force to a card inserted into the connector, and two supporting tabs located respectively behind the card engaging tabs which supportively abut the corresponding card engaging tabs when the card ejecting plate is driven to eject an inserted card, thereby preventing excessive deformation from occurring to the card engaging tabs due to the card ejecting force.

An electrical card connector having an upper and a lower shells, two stand-offs and a guiding rack for securing the shells and stand-offs together. A number of projecting blocks are formed on the guiding rack for aiding in securing the guiding rack to the upper and lower shells.

Electrical card connector

An IC card connector assembly comprises stacked upper and lower connectors and a rear socket attached thereto. The upper connector includes an upper header and a row of upper contacts retained in the upper header. The upper header comprises a pair of upper sidebars each defining an upper recess in an outside face thereof. The lower connector includes a lower header and a row of lower contacts retained in the lower header. The lower header comprises a pair of lower sidebars each defining a lower recess in an outside face thereof. The rear socket includes an elongate base and a pair of arms upwardly extending from opposite ends of the base. The base defines two rows of cavities. In a semi-assembled state, the arms are received in the lower recesses with a gap defined therebween thereby, the rear socket being deflectably toward the lower contacts assembled to the upper and lower connectors for facilitating arrangement of the lower contacts in one of the two rows of cavities of the rear socket.

IC card connector assembly

An electronic card connector adapted to mount to a circuit board and receive and electrically connect an electronic card to the circuit board includes an insulative header having a board facing side. Long and short contact terminals are received and retained in the header with tail ends thereof extending beyond the board facing side to electrically engage with the circuit board. The board facing side of the header has a recess defined therein corresponding to each of the long contact terminals. The recess has a depth sufficient to accommodate the difference of length between the long and short contact terminals thereby reducing the overall dimension of the connector. The electronic card connector includes a card release mechanism for ejecting the electronic card from the connector. The card release mechanism includes a card release bar that is movable with respect to the header to pivot an actuator which in turn drives the electronic card out of the connector. The header has an arm extending therefrom with a groove defined therein for guidingly receiving and supporting a front end of the card release bar. The electronic card connector has a casing enclosing the header. The casing has an inner side wall and an outer side wall defining a channel therebetween for guidingly and movably receiving a rear section of the card release bar thereby more securely supporting the card release bar with respect to the header.

Electronic card connector having an improved card release mechanism

A pick-up is adapted to be fit into an electronic card connector for allowing the connector to be picked up by an external device. The pick-up includes a flat body receivable between two spaced retention bars of the connector. The flat body has two lateral edges and a flat face extending therebetween. Each lateral edge is receivable in a guide slot defined in the corresponding retention bar for retaining the flat body in the connector with the flat face exposed for engagement by the external device. The pick-up further includes a retainer mounted on each lateral edge thereof. Each retainer includes at least one cantilevered arm having a first end fixed to the lateral edge of the flat body and a free second end spaced from the lateral edge and forming a contact engagement member thereon. The contact engagement member is thus resiliently supported on the lateral edge for engaging with the guide slot to secure the pick-up in the connector.

Pick-up for electronic card connector

An electronic card connector includes a connector portion having a header retaining a plurality of first contact elements therein. Each first contact element has a first end extending beyond a first face of the header for engaging with an electronic card and a second end extending beyond a second face of the header. A mounting portion includes a housing defining a plurality of passageways between third and fourth faces thereof for receiving and retaining second contact elements therein. The second ends of the first contact elements are inserted into the passageways of the mounting portion from the third face thereof for electrically engaging with the corresponding second contact elements. A slot is defined in the fourth face of the mounting portion for receiving a circuit board. The slot is in communication with the passageways whereby the second contact elements are partially extended into the slot for electrically engaging with the circuit board. A pair of guide arms extend from the second face of the connector portion for snugly receiving and retaining the mounting portion therebetween.

An IC card connector assembly comprises a pair of stacked header connectors and a locator. The header connectors include a plurality of terminals. Each terminal has a mounting portion downwardly extending beyond the header connector. The locator includes a pair of side walls and a center portion defining a cavity therebetween, the center portion defining two rows of tunnels and a cavity in communication with the cavity. Each tunnel forms a projecting area on an inner surface thereof proximate the cavity. The mounting portions are arranged in two rows. Each mounting portion extends through the corresponding tunnel of the locator and into the cavity. The projecting area outwardly deflects the mounting portion to closely abut against the inner surface of the side wall thereby ensuring reliable engagement with contacts of a plug mounted on a mother board.

An electronic card connector includes a header having two opposite guide arms for receiving an electronic card therein. Contact elements are retained in the header and are electrically engageable with the electronic card. A card release bar is axially and movably mounted to one of the guide arms for operating a card release mechanism to release the electronic card from the connector. The release bar includes a button section having a fixed block fixed to the card release bar and a movable block pivotally mounted to the fixed block to be movable between a stowed position and a working position. Snap-fit elements are provided between the movable block and the fixed block corresponding to the stowed position and the working position for releasably retaining the movable block at the stowed position and the working position. A spring is mounted between the fixed block and the movable block for biasing the movable block toward the stowed position. In the absence of the snap-fit means, the spring helps to retain the movable block at the stowed position.

Electronic card connector with foldable card release bar

A retention mechanism comprises a base, a pair of arms and a pair of locking elements. The base forms a hollow slot for receiving a connector therein. The arms vertically extend from lateral ends of the base. Each arm forms a receiving slot for receiving a CPU package therein. A leading element is formed in each arm and a positioning slot is formed in each leading element. A guiding face is formed on a top of each leading element for facilitating insertion of the CPU package. Each locking element engages with a free end of the arm and a top edge of the CPU package for ensuring a reliable connection between the CPU package and the connector.

Retention mechanism

A rectangular pick-up is disclosed for use with an electrical card connector including a housing fixedly receiving a number of contacts each having a contact portion for engaging with an inserted card and a tail portion for being soldered to a PCB by SMT, and two guiding rails extending from lateral ends of the housing for guiding the card into/out of the connector. The pick-up is integrally formed by plastic injection molding with an upper wall, a lower wall, a front side, a rear side and two lateral arms each defining a lateral protrusion. A cavity is defined in the pick-up and is exposed to the rear side of the pick-up. When the pick-up is mounted to the connector, the rear side engages with the housing, the lateral arms are received in the guiding rails, the protrusions interferentially engage with the rails, and the cavity receives the contact portions of the contact therein. The upper wall defines a flat surface which can receive a vacuum force from a vacuum tool whereby the connector together with the pick-up can be moved to a predetermined position on the PCB.

Pick-up for card connector

An electrical card connector comprises a main body and a spacer attached to the main body. The main body defines a pair of receiving portions and a number of terminals between the receiving portions. Each receiving portion forms a notch in an inner surface thereof. The spacer includes a horizontal board and a vertical board connecting with one edge of the horizontal board. A pair of latches extend from opposite ends of an inner surface of the vertical board for engaging with the notches of the main body. A number of passageways are defined between the latches for receiving the terminals of the main body.
