Polypyrrole polymers functionalized with thioanions and methods for their use in metal capture applications are provided. Also provided are methods for making the polypyrroles using anion exchange techniques. The thioanion-functionalized polypyrroles have a conjugated, positively charged backbone of pyrrole units that is charge-balanced with associated thioanions.

Thioanion-functionalized polypyrroles for metal ion capture

Conjugated organic polymers doped with anions and methods for the use of the anion-doped conjugated organic polymers in the selective electroless extraction and recovery of gold or silver from samples containing gold anions or silver anions are provided. The anion-doped polymers have a conjugated, positively charged backbone chain that is charge-balanced with associated dopant anions.

Conjugated polymers for the selective electroless recovery of gold and silver from solutions

Composite electrocatalytic materials for catalyzing water splitting are provided. Such materials may comprise a porous, conductive support composed of a transition metal foam, the support having a surface, and a coating on the surface of the support. The coating may comprise nanorods of a first transition metal chalcogenide, each nanorod anchored on one end to the surface of the support and extending perpendicularly away from the surface of the support to a free opposing end, nanosheets of a second transition metal chalcogenide, the nanosheets coating a surface of the nanorods of the first transition metal chalcogenide, and nanosheets of a third transition metal chalcogenide, the nanosheets also coating the surface of the nanorods of the first transition metal chalcogenide.

Composite, hierarchical electrocatalytic materials for water splitting

Polysulfide intercalated layered double hydroxides and methods for their use in vapor and liquid-phase metal capture applications are provided. The layered double hydroxides comprise a plurality of positively charged host layers of mixed metal hydroxides separated by interlayer spaces. Polysulfide anions are intercalated in the interlayer spaces.
