The present invention provides an electron beam curable coating composition comprising: an electron beam curable component (A) which contains 10% by mass or more of a multifunctional (meth)acrylate; and a room temperature curable component (B) which contains 1 to 15% by mass of an isocyanate group and is not cured by electron beam irradiation, wherein a solid content mass ratio of the component (B) to a total amount of the components (A) and (B) is 20 to 55% by mass.

Electron beam curable coating composition

An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a coated material by using a composition that can be spray-coated, and that does not run downward after coating (i.e., rheology controllable). The method for producing a coated material includes step (1) of applying an electron beam-curable composition containing an ethylenically unsaturated group-containing compound to a substrate to form a coating film that has a surface viscosity of 1 Pa&#xb7;s to 300 Pa&#xb7;s as measured based on an electric-field pickup method, step (2) of drying the coating film obtained in step (1) to form a dry coating film when the electron beam-curable composition contains a volatile component, and step (3) of irradiating the substrate that has the coating film obtained in step (1) or the dry coating film obtained in step (2) with electron beams in an inert gas atmosphere to form a cured coating film.

Provided is a method of applying an electron beam curable aqueous coating material, including coating a surface of a material to be coated with the electron beam curable aqueous coating material to form a wet coating film; drying the wet coating film until a time integration value of a reciprocal of an average value of viscosities of a region from a surface of the wet coating film to a depth of one half a film thickness of the wet coating film is in a range of 0.30 (Pa&#xb7;s)&#xb7;min to 0.90 (Pa&#xb7;s)&#xb7;min, which is acquired by an electric field pick-up method, and a solid content concentration of the wet coating film is 90% by mass or greater; and curing the obtained dry coating film by irradiation with an electron beam after the wet coating film is dried.

A water-based coating composition including: a polyol; a polyisocyanate; a hydrophobic curing catalyst which is made of an organometallic compound containing at least one metal atom selected from the group consisting of Sn, Bi, Zr, Ti, and Al and of which solubility in water under conditions of atmospheric pressure at 20&#xb0; C. is 1 g/100 ml or less; and a nonionic surfactant of which an HLB value determined by a Griffin method is 10 to 15.

A coating method for forming a laminated coating film including a lower layer formed on a base material and an upper layer formed on the lower layer including: preparing a thermosetting coating material as a lower layer-coating material and preparing a thermosetting coating material as an upper layer-coating material; forming an uncured laminated coating film by applying the lower layer-coating material and the upper layer-coating material on the base material using a wet-on-wet technique; and simultaneously curing the lower layer-coating material and the upper layer-coating material by baking the uncured laminated coating film. In the preparation step, the lower layer-coating, the intermediate layer-coating, and the upper layer-coating materials are selected so a sum of an absolute value of a difference in shrinkage ratio between the lower layer-coating and the intermediate layer-coating materials and an absolute value of a difference in shrinkage ratio between the intermediate layer-coating and the upper layer-coating materials at the late stage of the baking is 3.0% or smaller.
