An imaging unit includes a plurality of imaging devices configured to capture images of an object; a circuit substrate configured to generate image data based on the images captured by the imaging devices; a chassis that holds the imaging devices; and a heat transfer member including a contacting portion configured to contact an installed member in a case where the imaging unit is installed on the installed member. The heat transfer member contacts the chassis or the circuit substrate, and heat conductivity of the heat transfer member is greater than the heat conductivity of the chassis.

An optical scanner, which is included in an image forming apparatus, includes a light source including a recessed portion provided on an outer circumference thereof, and a housing configured to support the light source. The housing includes a positioning unit configured to position the light source in a vertical optical axis of the light source, and a cutout provided on an inner circumference of the positioning unit. The light source is positioned to the positioning unit with the recessed portion being disposed at the cutout and then is fixed to the housing. The image forming apparatus includes an image carrier configured to form an image on a surface thereof, and the above-described optical scanner.

A method of assembling a light source comprises the steps of inserting multiple lead wires of a light emitting element into an insertion hole formed in a circuit board from one side of the circuit board at once, striking tips of the multiple lead wires with corresponding multiple guides formed on a circumference of a pressing device serving as a jig from the other side of the circuit board, moving the pressing device toward the one side from the other side of the circuit board, and in a first stage guiding the multiple lead wires to corresponding terminals formed in an inner wall of the insertion hole of the circuit board, respectively.

A light emitting element adjusting and fixing structure includes a light emitting element having a plurality of light emitting points is fixed to a housing with a holding member. The housing includes a mounting hole having a reference plane to which the light emitting element is mounted, and a holding portion for holding the holding member such that the light emitting element can be rotated in contact with the reference plane. A distance between the adjacent light emitting points in a projection plane of the light emitting points can be adjusted by rotationally adjusting the light emitting element with respect to an optical axis in a state in which the holding member is held by the holding portion, and then fixing the light emitting element to the housing.
