A method of operating a heat transfer system includes circulating a heat transfer fluid through a heat transfer circuit in fluid communication with an electric system, and obtaining real-time measurements of fluid properties of the heat transfer fluid. A dimensional effectiveness factor for the heat transfer fluid (DEF) is calculated based on the fluid properties and for a selected pump and a selected dominant flow regime within the heat transfer circuit, and a dimensional effectiveness factor for a reference fluid (DEF) is calculated for the selected pump and the selected dominant flow regime within the heat transfer circuit. A normalized effectiveness factor (NEF) of the heat transfer fluid is then obtained, whereby a health of the heat transfer fluid is obtained. If the NEFis below a predetermined threshold, the health will be considered deteriorated, and if the NEFis above the predetermined threshold, the health will be considered viable.

Monitoring health of heat transfer fluids for electric systems

Heat transfer fluids corresponding to mixtures of at least one hydrogen bond donor and at least one hydrogen bond acceptor are provided. The heat transfer fluids can have an unexpectedly high heat capacity relative to the expected heat capacity based on the heat capacities of the at least one hydrogen bond donor and the at least one hydrogen bond acceptor. In some aspects, the heat transfer fluids can also have a sufficiently high electrical resistivity to be suitable for use in environments such as heat management systems in electric vehicles.

Thermal management fluids with synergistic heat capacity

Disclosed are thermal management fluids for electric systems and methods of application. An example thermal management fluid may comprise: a base oil as a major component, wherein the base oil has both of the following enumerated properties: (i) a branch content of about 15 mol. % to about 30 mol. %; and (ii) a naphthene content of about 30 wt. % or less.

High thermal conductivity hydrocarbon thermal management fluids for electric vehicles

A functionalized polyolefin and a tire tread composition comprising the functionalized polyolefin is described. The functionalized polyolefin comprises a vinyl/vinylidene-terminated polyolefin in which the vinyl/vinylidene terminus is functionalized with an alkoxysilane or an alkylsilane and optionally having ether, hydroxyl and/or amine functionality. The invention is also directed to the synthesis of vinyl/vinylidene-terminated polyolefins, functionalization at the vinyl/vinylidene terminus with an alkoxysilane or an alkylsilane and optionally having ether, hydroxyl and/or amine functionality.

Chain end functionalized polyolefins for improving wet traction and rolling resistance of tire treads

This disclosure relates to heat transfer fluids for use in heat transfer systems. The heat transfer fluids comprise at least one non-aqueous dielectric heat transfer fluid. The non-aqueous dielectric heat transfer fluid has density (&#x3c1;), specific heat (c), and dynamic viscosity (&#x3bc;) properties. The heat transfer fluids have a normalized effectiveness factor (NEF) as determined by the following equation: wherein DEFis a dimensional effectiveness factor for the heat transfer fluid that is determined based on an equation designated in Table 1 below for a selected pump and a selected heat transfer circuit dominant flow regime; wherein DEFis a dimensional effectiveness factor for a reference fluid that is determined using the same equation designated in Table 1 for DEFabove for the same selected pump and the same selected heat transfer circuit dominant flow regime; and wherein the heat transfer fluid has a NEFvalue equal to or greater than 1.0. This disclosure also provides a method for improving performance of a heat transfer system, a method for improving performance of an apparatus, and a method for selecting a heat transfer fluid for use in a heat transfer system. The heat transfer fluids and methods of this disclosure are applicable in situations where the heat transfer system is dominated by heat conveyance.

Heat transfer fluids and methods of use

This disclosure relates to heat transfer fluids for use in heat transfer systems. The heat transfer fluids comprise at least one non-aqueous dielectric heat transfer fluid. The non-aqueous dielectric heat transfer fluid has density (&#x3c1;), specific heat (c), and dynamic viscosity (&#x3bc;) properties. This disclosure also provides a method for improving performance of a heat transfer system, a method for improving performance of an apparatus, and a method for selecting a heat transfer fluid for use in a heat transfer system. The heat transfer fluids and methods of this disclosure are applicable in situations where the heat transfer system is dominated by heat conveyance.

Thermocleavable friction modifiers and methods thereof

Methods are provided for producing Group III base stocks having high viscosity and also having one or more properties indicative of a high quality base stock. The resulting Group III base stocks can have a viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. and/or a viscosity at 40&#xb0; C. that is greater than the corresponding viscosity for a conventional Group III base stock. Methods are provided for producing Group I base stocks having high viscosity and also having one or more properties indicative of a high quality base stock. The resulting Group I base stocks can have a viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. and/or a viscosity at 40&#xb0; C. that is greater than the corresponding viscosity for a conventional Group I bright stock formed by solvent processing. Additionally, the resulting Group I base stocks can have one or more properties that are indicative of a high quality base stock.

A method of forming a polyolefin-filler hybrid comprising combining vinyl/vinylidene-terminated polyolefin (VTP) and halosilane to form a silane functionalized polyolefin, followed by combining the silane functionalized polyolefin with a hydroxyl-containing filler, and/or combining the silane functionalized polyolefin with water and combining with hydroxyl-containing filler; to form a polyolefin-filler hybrid.
