A communication system communicates between an inviting user and an invited user. The communication system authenticates a User Equipment (UE) of the inviting user. The communication system receives a user image and a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message for the invited user from the authenticated UE of the inviting user. The communication system generates another SIP message for the invited user having the authentication information and the user image and transfers the other SIP message to another UE of the invited user. The communication system exchanges user data between the UE of the inviting user and the other UE of the invited user in response to the other SIP message.

Solutions for providing best effort service for voice calls (including video calls) using a non-guaranteed bit rate (GBR) bearer include: receiving, at a proxy node (e.g., a proxy-call session control function (P-CSCF)), a request to set up a voice session for a UE; requesting, by the proxy node, a policy node (e.g., a policy and charging rules function (PCRF) or a policy control function (PCF)) to set up a GBR data pipe (e.g., a dedicated bearer, a quality of service (QoS) class identifier (QCI) 1 bearer, or a fifth generation (5G) QoS identifier (5QI) 1 bearer); based at least on an error condition (e.g., a timeout or error message), instructing, by the proxy node, the UE to set up the voice session using an existing non-GBR data pipe (e.g., a default bearer, a QCI-5 bearer, or a 5QI-5 bearer).

Solutions for service aware proxy-call session control function (P-CSCF) traffic routing include: receiving, at a master P-CSCF in a pool of a plurality of P-CSCFs, internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) traffic from a device; determining, by the master P-CSCF, a traffic type (e.g., 5G, 4G, SMS, WiFi, etc.) of the IMS traffic from the device; based on at least the traffic type of the IMS traffic from the device, selecting, by the master P-CSCF, a serving P-CSCF from the pool for the device; and forwarding, by the serving P-CSCF for the device, the IMS traffic from the device to an IMS. In some examples, the serving P-CSCF selection also includes loading considerations. In some examples, an alternate P-CSCF is available for failover as the new master P-CSCF. In some examples, a network includes multiple pools of P-CSCFs, with each pool having its own master P-CSCF and alternate P-CSCF.

Service aware proxy-call session control function (P-CSCF) traffic routing

In a telecommunication network, network slices can be identified by slice identifiers used within a core network. The same slice identifiers can also be used by elements of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) to identify the network slices. For example, a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) can be provisioned with user data associated with a user equipment (UE), including a slice identifier of a network slice that the UE is assigned to use. The HSS can provide the slice identifier to an S-CSCF in the IMS when the UE registers with the IMS. The S-CSCF can share the slice identifier with other IMS elements, such as a P-CSCF and/or one or more application servers. Accordingly, the IMS elements can determine key performance indicators (KPIs) and perform other operations in association with usage of network slices by UEs, based on the same slice identifiers used within the core network.

A user equipment (UE) can attempt to register with an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) that includes Call Session Control Functions (CSCFs), such as a Proxy CSCF (P-CSCF), an Interrogating CSCF (I-CSCF), and a Serving CSCF (S-CSCF). In situations in which IMS registration procedures may otherwise fail for the UE, due to an unreachable I-CSCF and/or S-CSCF, a P-CSCF can pseudo-register the UE with the IMS by informing the UE that the UE is registered with the IMS. If the UE attempts to initiate a service via the IMS while being pseudo-registered with the IMS, the P-CSCF can instruct other IMS elements to accept the UE and provide the service to the UE even though the UE is not fully registered with the IMS.

A network may include an International Serials Data System (ISDS) that is configured to register and determine an identity of a receiving or originating user equipment (UE) that has a home network that operates using a different format or standard than the current network. The ISDS may be configured to generate transmissions on behalf of the UE for registration and identification for outgoing and incoming voice or text messages using the format of both networks.

Architecture for providing cellular roaming support

Methods, media, and systems are provided for continuity of a telecommunications network service in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) layer providing telecommunications network services to devices located on an island. The IMS layer may comprise a Call Session Control Function (CSCF) or an application server. A diameter routing agent (DRA) or other diameter traffic controller associated with the CSCF transmits a request to a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) (e.g., that is located on a mainland). The CSCF, application server, or both have a skip HSS flag comprising instructions for connectivity loss with the HSS. Based on determining a loss of connectivity with the HSS, a Serving CSCF associated with the island is automatically selected or the Serving CSCF automatically transmits a response indicating the request was successful registering a user device, such that the user device continues working remotely on the island.

Network service continuity in IP multimedia subsystem layer

Systems, devices, and techniques described herein relate to intelligently allocating network resources to Quality of Service (QoS)-sensitive data traffic. An example method includes identifying a request to deliver QoS-sensitive services to a User Equipment (UE) over at least one delivery network. The at least one delivery network may include at least one reserved resource and at least one pooled resource. The QoS-sensitive services are determined to be delivered over the at least one pooled resource. In addition, delivery of the QoS-sensitive services is caused over the at least one pooled resource.

Intelligent allocation of network resources

Systems, methods, and devices that relate to enabling roaming users to use various communication services by assigning temporary local numbers are disclosed. In one example aspect, a method for wireless communication includes entering a visited network by a roaming device. The roaming device has a primary number associated with its home network. The method includes requesting a local number associated with the visited network by the roaming device and performing a communication using the local number associated with the visited network.

Solutions for providing a data traffic session with proxy-call session control function (P-CSCF) restoration include: receiving an indication, by an application server (AS), that a user equipment (UE) is registered with a first proxy node; receiving, at a subscriber information node, from a call session control function (e.g., over an N70 interface), a first message triggering proxy node restoration; based on at least receiving the first message triggering proxy node restoration, transmitting, by the subscriber information node, to a management node, a second message triggering proxy node restoration; receiving an indication, by the AS, that the UE is registered with a second proxy node different than the first proxy node; and based on at least receiving a session initiation message, establishing the data traffic session for the UE with the second proxy node.

Proxy-call session control function (P-CSCF)

In a telecommunication network, a Serving Call Session Control Function (S-CSCF) may be coupled with a Fifth Generation (5G) Equipment Identity Register (EIR) via an N17' interface. In some examples, the S-CSCF can use the N17′ interface instead of a diameter protocol for communicating with the 5G-EIR. The S-CSCF can send a request to the 5G-EIR including a Permanent Equipment Identifier (PEI) associated with a user equipment (UE). In response, the S-CSCF can receive identity data indicative of whether the UE is authorized, not authorized, partially authorized, or unknown. Based on the identity data, the S-CSCF can authenticate a user equipment (UE) accessing a network. In some examples, the S-CSCF may route requests between a 5G-EIR and an EIR. In some examples, this authentication step can comprise a second-level authentication to identify stolen or fraudulent devices and to prevent such devices from accessing the network.

Enhanced N17 interface between IMS network and 5G-EIR

A network operator can partition network elements, including elements of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) or Policy and Charging Rules Functions (PCRFs) into groups reserved for specific types of subscribers. When a user equipment (UE) registers with an IMS, elements of the IMS can contact a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) to determine a subscriber type associated with the UE. Based on the UE's subscriber type, an IMS element can determine an application server or other IMS element to contact about the UE based on identifying application servers or IMS elements that are also associated with the same subscriber type as the UE. Similarly, an IMS element can determine a PCRF to contact about the UE based on identifying a PCRF that is associated with the same subscriber type as the UE.

A system and method for a resilient and self-recovery IP multimedia subsystem. In response to a subscriber who is registered with a first S-CSCF, a second S-CSCF is established as well and a flag is provided to a database. The database stores data for the session. The second S-CSCF is concurrent and separate from the first S-CSCF. In addition, the restoration data element in the first S-CSCF is deactivated. When the first S-CSCF is timed-out or fail to respond, instead of sending a restoration data, the second S-CSCF activates the flag with the database so that the second S-CSCF may establish with the database to continue with the session for the subscriber. The database identifies the session and restores the session data for the second S-CSCF.

Self-healing and resilient IP multimedia subsystem core

The techniques include receiving a handover request from a user device connected to a first access network and identifying a Non-3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF) serving the user device. The user device provides to the N3IWF, measurement report indicating network conditions. The techniques further include receiving the measurement report from the N3IWF and determining whether a measurement in the measurement report is above a predetermined threshold. If the measurement is above the predetermined threshold, the handover request is accepted to enable the user device to connect to a second access network.
