A vehicle body structure in a vehicle rear portion includes a first rear lateral ring-shaped vehicle body framework (RWC) extending in a vehicle lateral direction in a vehicle body rear portion (R) from vicinities of a pair of left and right damper support portions () supporting suspension dampers () and disposed in rear wheelhouses () at vehicle rear of side door openings (Es) of the vehicle. The vehicle body structure also includes coupling members () coupling longitudinal ring-shaped vehicle body frameworks (SLC) each having a substantially ring shape in a vehicle longitudinal direction to the first rear lateral ring-shaped vehicle body framework (RWC).

A vehicle side body structure is provided, which includes a hinge pillar having inner and outer hinge pillar members forming, in a vehicle side part, a closed section space extending in vehicle vertical directions, a side sill having a member forming, on a rear side of the hinge pillar, a closed section space extending in vehicle longitudinal directions, and a closed section space component forming a closed section space extending continuously in the longitudinal directions along an outer surface of the inner hinge pillar member and connecting to the closed section space of the side sill on the rear side. The invention provides a body structure for vehicles which is capable of enhancing the passenger-protecting performance without much increasing the vehicle weight by enhancing the stiffness around the vehicle interior with high efficiency. A body roof is equipped with a closed-in-cross-section roof reinforcement extending widthwise of the vehicle body along a roof panel, right-and-left end portions of the roof reinforcement being coupled to upper end portions of a right-and-left pair of closed-in-cross-section center pillars extending in upper-and-lower direction in side portions of the vehicle body, respectively. Lower end portions of the center pillars are coupled to a pair of closed-in-cross-section side sills which extend longitudinally of the vehicle body to support right-and-left side edge portions of a floor panel, respectively, so that the roof reinforcement, the right-and-left center pillars and the right-and-left side sills form a continuous closed cross section with which an upper portion and right-and-left side portions of the vehicle interior, as viewed from the front of the vehicle, are covered.

A front body structure of a vehicle, in which a power plant is installed, includes a reinforcement secured to a mounting portion of a wheel housing located where an engine mounting bracket is attached. The front body structure also includes another reinforcement, for connecting the reinforcement to a suspension tower, which connects the reinforcement to the wheel housing. The other reinforcement is smaller in plate thickness than the reinforcement so as to absorb impact force applied to the front body during a front end collision. A front frame reinforcement is secured to a front side frame so as to reinforce a portion of the front side frame at a location in which a cut-away portion is formed so as to compensate for a decrease in structural strength of the front side frame. A connecting member connects the power-plant to a rigid structural member so as to suppress a movement of the power-plant during a front end collision.

The impact sensor is mounted to the front portion of the vehicle body to operate at a high degree of responsiveness. The impact load is entered into the front frame to the bumper in such a manner that the input point of input of the impact load is offset by a given distance upwards above the vertically central line of the front frame. To a lower front end portion of the front frame is joined the cross member so as to make rigidity at the upper portion of the front frame equal to that at the lower portion thereof. The impact sensor is mounted to the front frame in such a forwards inclined state with respect to the horizontal direction of the vehicle body that the direction of the impact sensor in which the impact of the crash is sensed approaches the horizontal direction.

A front body structure of a vehicle, in which a power-plant is installed, includes a reinforcement secured to a mounting portion of a wheel housing located where an engine mounting bracket is attached. The front body structure also includes another reinforcement, for connecting the reinforcement to a suspension tower, which connects the reinforcement to the wheel housing. A rear deck structure of a car body for partly supporting a rear window glass element and connecting right and left rear side walls of a car body includes a rear deck member with a hollow flange section extending from the right side wall to the left side wall of the car body. The rear deck member is connected to each suspension tower at each end of the hollow flange section with the hollow flange section secured, either directly or through a connecting member, to a rear surface of the suspension tower.
