A pointing cursor is moved to a position on a file icon to be transferred in a file list using a position input unit. Thereafter, a button of the position input unit is depressed to select the file icon. The position input unit is moved while depressing its button so as to move the pointing cursor into a display area of a received image, and thereafter, the button of the position input unit is released. At this time, a drag & drop event is generated by a basic software program. Therefore, by only dragging the icon of the file to be transferred by operating the position input unit, an instruction input for a series of file transfer processes can be attained, and the operability for the file transfer function can be improved.

Communication apparatus and method for performing a file transfer operation

A multi-media communication apparatus capable of communicating image and voice signals through a communication line, includes a storage unit for storing data sent from a communication apparatus of a first party during a communication with the communication apparatus of the first party, and a transmission unit for transmitting data stored in the storage unit to a communication apparatus of a second party during a communication with the communication apparatus of the second party.

A communication apparatus includes a storage unit for storing image information associated with a distant station, an instruction unit for instructing a read operation of image information stored in the storage unit, a display unit for reading out and displaying a plurality of pieces of image information instructed by the instruction unit, and a communication control unit for generating a call to one of distant stations corresponding to the pieces of image information displayed on the display unit.

There is disclosed a communicating apparatus such as a television telephone connected to the ISDN having a calling party number display service, including a receiving unit for receiving image data sent from a calling party communicating apparatus; a memory for storing the image data received by the receiving unit in correspondence to ID data indicative of the calling party communicating apparatus; and a display apparatus for receiving the ID data upon call reception from the calling party communicating apparatus and for reading out the image data corresponding to the received ID data from the memory and for displaying. Before a speech is started, the user can see the image information regarding the calling party and can immediately disconnect the communication if he does not want to speak to the calling party upon call reception therefrom.
