A time slot selection device is provided that can consider resource use states on its own and allocate time slots. The time slot selection device performs time slot allocation, based on data link identifiers that identify a group of data links specified by a path setup request, a time slot size that is information about a required band, and a required number that is the number of contiguous time slots required. In this time slot selection device, a resource allocation section performs time slot selection, based on the resource use state of each time slot. By the time slot selection with consideration given to the use state of each time slot in the group of data links, time slots to be used can be selected so that a maximum number of contiguous usable time slots will be left. Thus, it is possible to efficiently use resources.

Optical ring system

The IP addresses of network elements are generated based on the ID numbers of nodes within a network having a predetermined configuration. After producing the configuration information including an interconnection relationship among the network elements, the respective IP addresses are determined such that the ID number of each node is used to determine an IP address of each network element according to the interconnection relationship between the node and the network element. A node IP address is determined based on the ID number of the node, and another IP address of each of the network elements other than the nodes is determined based on the sum of the total number of nodes and the ID number of the node.

Automatic address assignment method

In a ring network system comprising a plurality of nodes, each node is provided with a node information table which is logically divided into node areas each corresponding to a single node within the ring network. Each node collects node information stored in the node information tables of the two adjacent nodes by regularly accessing the node information tables of those nodes, and updates the contents of its own node information table. As a result of the above information collecting operation that is performed by each node, all the node information can be stored in the node information table of each node.
