Polyamine additives are disclosed that are useful to provide early water resistant to drying anionically colloidally stabilized polymer dispersions in aqueous media. The polyamines are polymerization products from ethylenically unsaturated monomers with pendant tertiary amine groups with ethylenically unsaturated monomers with pendant poly(alkylene oxide) chains of 88 to 1200 g/mole molecular weight.

This invention relates to a heat sealable adhesive composition for packaging for moderate to high moisture food products. A polymerization process to copolymerize hydrophobic ethylenically unsaturated C-C. J olefins with polar monomers such as acrylates is described. The process utilizes an acid source to modify/catalyze the reactivity of the polar monomer and/or radically activated repeat unit from the polar monomer to promote incorporation of the ethylenically unsaturated olefin. The copolymer shows excellent adhesion to a variety of polymeric and/or polar substrates such as polyolefins, acrylate coatings, wood, etc.

This invention relates to waterborne coatings with enhanced early water blushing resistance, chemical resistance, and adhesion to substrates. The thiocarbonate compounds thicken or increase the viscosity of a composition, preferably an aqueous composition when used in an effective amount. In one preferred embodiment, the thiocarbonate compounds include at least one hydrophilic group containing repeat unit such as derived from acrylic acid, and at least one hydrophobic group to enhance association with other compounds and thus increase viscosity of a composition. This invention relates to waterbone coating compositions having improved compatability with metal pigments, i.e., improved shelf life and reduced gassing and gellation. The composition comprise at least one aqueous dispersion of (1) at least one emulsion copolymer polymerized from (a) at least one ethylenically unsaturated anionic monomer and (b) at least one other olefinically unsaturated monomer, said copolymer being made using at least one phosphate surfactant having at least one phosphorus acid group or salt thereof, said copolymer being crosslinked, and (2) at least one non-water soluble metal pigment. The compositions are useful in paints and other coatings.
