A thread rolling apparatus has thread rolling dies mounted respectively on a pair of sliding mechanisms which are vertically movably driven by respective actuators, and a support disposed between the thread rolling dies for rotatably supporting a workpiece. The sliding mechanisms and the support are interconnected by a rack and pinion mechanism for imparting a forced rotational drive force to the workpiece in synchronism with the movement of the sliders. The lead angle of the thread rolling dies is set to match the forced rolling diameter of the workpiece. By adjusting the distance between the thread rolling dies in matching relation to the workpiece diameter before threading, the thread rolling apparatus can form different screws having equal pitches and different nominal diameters.

Thread rolling apparatus

A transfer machine comprising a conveyor for conveying workpieces to stations and numerically controlled machine tools disposed at their respective stations. These machine tools are controlled by sequence controllers, which are connected with their respective numerical controllers. All the programs for machining operations are stored in each numerical controller. When some station is in trouble, the normal machine tool disposed at a station adjacent to the station in trouble is caused to execute the program originally assigned to the station in trouble, as well as the program assigned to the normal station itself.

A tripod type constant velocity universal joint comprises a driven part having an axis of rotation; a driving part having an axis of rotation; a spider member, integral with one of the parts, having three roller supporting rods extended radially from the concentrated portion thereof with an angle of 120 degrees formed therebetween; three roller elements respectively rotatably supported on the roller supporting rods and slidable along the axial directions of the roller supporting rods; and a pot member, integral with the other of the parts, defining three pairs of roller raceways. The longitudinal axis of each pair of roller raceways symmetrically approaches along straight lines a rotational axis of the pot member on both sides of the roller raceways in their longitudinal direction. The tripod type constant velocity universal joint of the present invention decreases the quantities of nonconstant rotational velocity by decreasing the difference of the pitch radiuses of the portions at which two adjacent roller elements are respectively located between the pairs of roller raceways, and reduces the size and weight thereof.

Valve lifts are measured with a reference engine assembled correctly, at at least two crank angles, and the relationship between the crank angle and the valve lifts is memorized in an arithmetic unit. Thereafter, the crank shaft of an engine, the valve actuating system of which is to be examined, is indexed at the above-mentioned crank angles in the assembled state of the engine, and the valve lifts are measured at these crank angles. The measured data are delivered to the arithmetic unit which performs an arithmetic operation to determine whether there is any abnormality in the valve actuating system and to make the display of the result of the determination.

A holder for use in cutting the outside surface of a cylindrical blank, the inner bottom of which has a concave spherical seat, to make said outside surface concentric with said concave spherical seat, characterized in that a rotatable shaft of a smaller outside diameter than the inner diameter of said blank and having a tip bearing against said concave spherical seat is provided longitudinally with three equi-distant grooves. A concave spherical surface is formed at the bottom of each of said grooves and this surface has a concave spherical surface of radius R with its axis running at right angles to the longitudinal direction of said rotatable shaft. In each groove of said shaft is slidably inserted an expansion pawl having at its top a projection bearing against the inside surface of said blank and having at its bottom a convex spherical surface of radius r (R &gt; r). The invention includes a method of correcting concentricity by using said holder.
