A cutting tool according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes a shaft portion and cutting edge portions. The main cutting edge portions have a main cutting edge. In a section within ±30% of a blade length of a region from a center of the region in a direction along the central axis, the main cutting edge portions have first and second nick portions. The main cutting edge portions are formed in the region. The relationship between the first nick portion and the second nick portion satisfies at least one of a first condition and a second condition. The first condition is that a width of the first nick portion is different from a width of the second nick portion. The second condition is that a depth of the first nick portion is different from a depth of the second nick portion.

A surface-coated cutting tool includes a base material and a coating film formed on a surface of the base material. The coating film includes a first alternating layer and a second alternating layer formed on the first alternating layer. The first alternating layer includes first and second layers. The second alternating layer includes third and fourth layers. One or a plurality of the first layers and one or a plurality of the second layers are layered alternately, and one or a plurality of the third layers and one or a plurality of the fourth layers are layered alternately.

Surface-coated cutting tool and method for manufacturing same

A drill includes a body. The body includes a first cutting edge, and a second cutting edge apart from the first cutting edge to the back end side relative to the first cutting edge and formed in a recess traversing an outer peripheral portion of the body. In a side view of the body in a first direction in which a distance between a center axis of the body and a first outer end of the first cutting edge is seen the longest, a second outer end of the second cutting edge is located at the center axis side relative to the first outer end of the first cutting edge.

A surface-coated cutting tool includes a substrate and a coating film. The coating film includes an alternate layer. The alternate layer includes a first layer having a first composition and a second layer having a second composition. The alternate layer is formed by alternately stacking at least one first layer and at least one second layer. The first layer and the second layer each have a thickness not smaller than 2 nm and not greater than 100 nm. The first composition is expressed as TiAlSiN (0.25&#x2264;a&#x2264;0.45, 0.55&#x2264;b&#x2264;0.75, 0&#x2264;c&#x2264;0.1, a+b+c=1). The second composition is expressed as TiAlSiN (0.35&#x2264;d&#x2264;0.55, 0.45&#x2264;e&#x2264;0.65, 0&#x2264;f&#x2264;0.1, d+e+f=1). The first composition and the second composition satisfy a condition of 0.05&#x2264;d&#x2212;a&#x2264;0.2 and 0.05&#x2264;b&#x2212;e&#x2264;0.2.
