An image forming apparatus includes: an image forming unit configured to form a reference image, and a plurality of test images; a conveying unit configured to convey the sheet; a reading unit configured to read the sheet, and output read data, the reading unit including a plurality of light-receiving elements disposed along a direction orthogonal to a conveyance direction of the sheet; and a controller configured to: determine a direction in which the plurality of test images are disposed based on read data related to the reference image; determine test image read data related to test image regions corresponding to each of the plurality of test images from the read data based on the direction; and control a density of an image to be formed by the image forming unit based on the test image read data.

A driving transmission device includes a motor, a first pulley, a second pulley, an endless belt which is wound on the first pulley and the second pulley, dielectric layers disposed between the endless belt and the first pulley and between the endless belt and the second pulley, and a power source unit. A length of a portion of the endless belt which is wound on the second pulley is longer than a length of a portion of the endless belt which is wound on the first pulley. An amount of current supplied from the second pulley to the endless belt in a region in which the endless belt is wound on the second pulley is smaller than an amount of current supplied from the first pulley to the endless belt in a region in which the endless belt is wound on the first pulley.

A driving transmission device includes a motor, a first pulley to be rotated by the motor, a second pulley connected to a rotating member, an endless belt wound on the first pulley and the second pulley, a dielectric layer provided between the endless belt and the first pulley and between the endless belt and the second pulley, and a power supply unit configured to apply a voltage to the first pulley. The first pulley, the endless belt, and the second pulley are connected in series. A length by which the endless belt is wound on the second pulley is larger than a length by which the endless belt is wound on the first pulley. A voltage applied to the second pulley is lower than the voltage applied to the first pulley.

A speed detection apparatus includes a storage unit configured to store time when each of first and second sensors detects an arbitrary detection mark and an address corresponding to the detection mark. The speed detection apparatus further includes a same mark detection time identification unit configured to identify, based on output information from a reference speed detection unit, time when the first and second sensors detect the same mark, based on the address and the time stored in the storage unit, and a relative speed calculation unit configured to calculate, based on output information from the same mark detection time identification unit, a speed of the first sensor and the second sensor relative to a scale member.
