This disclosure provides techniques for activation of a secondary cell by a user equipment (UE) operating in a wireless network. For example, a UE receives a command to activate a secondary cell of the wireless network for wireless communication, and determines whether timing information is known by the UE for the secondary cell. Based on the determination, the UE performs a first secondary cell activation within first time period based on the timing information being known, or performs a second secondary cell activation within a second time period based on the timing information being unknown. After which, the UE wirelessly communicate data over the wireless network using the secondary cell, based on the secondary cell being activated.

Secondary cell (SCell) activation in a wireless network for a high speed scenario

A system, method, and apparatus is provided for performing carrier aggregation (CA) radio resource management (RRM). The system, method, and apparatus can receive a configuration message having configuration information from an access node; determine a measurement period for a secondary cell (SCell) and a cell identification delay based upon the configuration information; identify a new detectable cell on a secondary component carrier (SCC) as the SCell within the cell identification delay; perform a measurement for a CA operation within the measurement period; and report the measurement to the access node. The configuration message can be a Radio Resource Control (RRC) message. The measurement for the CA operation can be a measurement of the SCell on the SCC. The system, method, and apparatus can multiply a measurement control parameter by a factor less than five (5) to determine the measurement period and can multiply a measurement control parameter by a factor less than twenty (20) to determine the cell identification delay. The system, method, and apparatus can further perform an action with respect to the SCell in response to the measurement.

Enhanced carrier aggregation (CA) radio resource management (RRM) measurement high speed

Some embodiments of this disclosure include systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media for use in a wireless network for radio link monitoring for high speed user equipment (UE). For example, some embodiments are directed to the UE including radio front end circuitry and processor circuitry coupled to the radio front end circuitry. The processor circuitry can be configured to monitor a downlink associated with a cell using a reference signal and estimate a downlink radio link quality associated with the downlink. The processor circuitry can further be configured to compare the estimated downlink radio link quality with a threshold. The processor circuitry can further be configured to trigger an out-of-sync operation in response to the downlink radio link quality being worse than the threshold. The threshold can include a value less than 10%.

Methods and systems for radio link monitoring for high speed scenario

A synchronization signal block (SSB) including a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) is transmitted using first and second beams. One or more symbols adjoining the first and second synchronization signals are configured to accommodate a beam switching time. At least one signal indicates a beam index for the first beam transmitting the first synchronization signal, and the beam index for the second beam transmitting the second synchronization signal is either signaled or determined based on a predetermined relationship between a resource for the first synchronization signal and a resource for the second synchronization signal. The beam indices may comprise first and second numbers of bits and/or may be jointly encoded. The beam indices may be indicated by one of the PSS, the SSS, the PBCH, a demodulation reference signal (DMRS), or a synchronization or reference signal designated for that purpose.

Method and apparatus for indication and transmission of downlink signal/channel for initial access

A method for enhanced autonomous uplink timing adjustment includes determining that a user equipment (UE) is traveling above a predetermined velocity. In response to the determination that the UE is traveling above the predetermined velocity, a maximum aggregate adjustment rate to an uplink timing for the UE and a maximum amount of a magnitude of a timing change to the uplink timing for the UE are determined. The uplink timing for the UE is adjusted based on the maximum aggregate adjustment rate and the maximum amount of the magnitude of the timing change.

In a communication system comprising user equipment (UE) and a radio access network (RAN) comprising a plurality of cells is configured for receiving, by the UE, a radio resource control (RRC) information element (IE) indicating a high speed scenario (HST); and monitoring, by the UE in response to receiving the RRC IE indicating HST, a first number of frequency carriers that is reduced relative to a second number of frequency carriers monitored by the UE during a non-HST.

A signal indicating the Doppler pre-compensation patterns is transmitted. The Doppler pre-compensated control signals comprise synchronization signals, system information blocks (SIBs), a radio resource control (RRC) message, or a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), and the Doppler pre-compensated data signals comprise a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH). The signal indicating the Doppler pre-compensation patterns comprises one of an RRC message or a PDCCH, and may indicate absolute Doppler values or a difference between Doppler values. Doppler pre-compensation is performed on synchronization signals using each of multiple Doppler pre-compensation patterns to generate a plurality of sets of Doppler pre-compensated synchronization signals that are transmitted using one or more beams. A signal indicating the Doppler pre-compensation patterns used is transmitted in one of a system information block (SIB) or a radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message, in connection with initial access by a user equipment (UE), idle UE cell reselection, connected UE data channel reception, or UE handover. Method and apparatus for determination of uplink/downlink transport block size and modulation and coding scheme

A UE may estimate the power headroom value when using shortened Transmission Time Intervals (sTTI). In one implementation, the power headroom value may be calculated based on an estimation of the UE transmission power over two or seven OFDM symbols. Alternatively or additionally, the power headroom value may be calculated based on an estimation of the UE transmission power over the period of an sTTI. Alternatively or additionally, the power headroom value may be calculated based on an average of the UE transmission power over multiple sTTI periods in a subframe. Alternatively or additionally, the power headroom value may be calculated based on a maximum or minimum of the UE transmission power measured over multiple sTTI periods in a subframe. Alternatively or additionally, the power headroom value may be calculated based on UE transmission power measured in the first or the last sTTI period in a subframe.

An apparatus of a user equipment (UE) includes processing circuitry configured to decode a master information block (MIB) using a set of physical broadcast channel (PBCH) symbols received within a downlink frame to obtain system frame number (SFN) information. The downlink frame includes multiple copies of the PBCH symbols within at least three subframes of the downlink frame. A system information block (SIB) may be decoded based on the SFN information, to obtain uplink channel configuration information. Random access channel (RACH) procedure may be performed with a base station (BS) based on the uplink channel configuration information, to obtain an uplink resource assignment. A connection setup completion message can be encoded for transmission to the BS using the uplink resource assignment. The set of PBCH symbols can include a set of four legacy PBCH symbols.

System information acquisition enhancements for wireless devices

Technology for a user equipment (UE) operable to decode measurement gap patterns received from a Next Generation NodeB (gNB) is disclosed. The UE can decode a per-frequency range (per-FR) measurement gap pattern received from the gNB in a New Radio (NR) system. The per-FR measurement gap pattern can indicate a measurement gap partem for monitoring selected frequency layers within a frequency range at the UE. The UE can process one or more measurements for the selected frequency layers within the frequency range. The one or more measurements for the selected frequency layers can be measured in accordance with the per-FR measurement gap pattern. The UE can encode the one or more measurements for the selected frequency layers for reporting to the gNB.
