A telematics controller is programmed identify a location of the vehicle responsive to failure of a vehicle-originated data call to initiate packet-switched communications, and send, to a service delivery network configured to provide data services to the vehicle, a message specifying that circuit-switched communication but not packet-switched communication is available to the vehicle. A message is received, over a wide-area network from a vehicle, in response to a failed initiation of a packed-switched data connection over the wide-area network, indicating that packet-switched communications are unavailable at a current location of the vehicle. Failure zones are updated to indicate that the current location of the vehicle is a network location supporting circuit-switched communication but not packet-switched communication over the wide-area network.

A telematics controller is programmed to identify a location responsive to detecting a failed data call from a vehicle, and if the location is within a geographic boundary of a failure zone within a cellular tower region and a cause of the failure matches a recorded cause for the failure zone, initiate data throttling until the vehicle moved outside of the geographic boundary.

A first type 0 short message service (SMS) message is sent, from the electronic device to the sender. The first type 0 SMS message indicates an authentication request for the message. Systems, methods, and software can be used to share content. In some aspect, an electronic device selects a base station to camp on. A first message is sent from the electronic device to the base station. The first message is addressed to a server and requests the server to send a second message to the electronic device. Whether the electronic device receives the second message from the base station within a threshold time period after the first message is sent is determined. The electronic device determines that the base station has a security risk based at least in part on whether the second message is received within the threshold time period.

A method for receiving public warning system (PWS) data includes receiving, at a user equipment (UE), a public warning system (PWS) message. The UE determines that the PWS message is a type 2 PWS message. The type 2 PWS message indicates that type 2 PWS data is delivered using a type 2 PWS data delivery mechanism. The type 2 PWS data is received using the type 2 PWS data delivery mechanism.

A method, device and a computer program product operable in a communications network to provide enhanced public warning system (PWS+) messages to a communication device over the current PWS system is disclosed. The method includes generating, at a server or network device, at least one public warning system (PWS) message and at least one enhanced PWS (PWS+) message, and associating the PWS+ message with the at least one PWS message. Systems, methods, and software can be used to prevent messaging attacks. In some aspects, a scanning short message is sent to a UICC associated with a mobile device. A response short message is received in response to the scanning short message. The UICC is determined to be at risk to attacks based on the response short message. In response to determining that the UICC is at risk to attacks, a notification is generated. In some cases, the notification is sent to a DMS. Alternatively or in combination, the notification is displayed on the mobile device. In response to determining that the UICC is at risk to attacks, a firewall application is installed on the mobile device. The firewall application is configured to process an incoming short message addressed to the UICC.

Preventing messaging attacks

Malicious clients within a wireless access network are identified using bait traffic transmitted between a collaborating wireless access point and a collaborating client. The bait traffic entices a malicious client to transmit malicious traffic towards the collaborating wireless access point. Upon receiving the malicious traffic, the collaborating wireless access point is able to identify the malicious client and report the presence of the malicious client within the wireless access network.

System and method for exposing malicious clients in wireless access networks

A method includes receiving an authentication certificate of a voice mail account holder and/or an authentication certificate of a caller wanting to leave a voice mail message the holders' voice mail account. A voice mail apparatus that provides voice mail service for the voice mail account holder performs such receiving. The account holder and/or the caller are authenticated after receiving the authentication certificate of the party being authenticated. Authenticating the account holder and/or the caller is performed using authentication information contained within the respective certificate. After such authentication is successfully performed, a voice mail message record can be created in the account of the account holder. Such creating includes allowing the caller to store the message in the account of the account holder in addition to associating authenticated identification information of the caller with the message and/or providing authenticated identification of the account holder to the caller.

Malware detection systems are presented in which a list is constructed of enterprise hosts to or from which each given enterprise network host sends or receives packets within a current measurement period and statistics are accumulated based on two or more measurement period lists, with a count value being derived from the statistics to indicate the number of other hosts to or from which each monitored host sent or received packets, and one or more monitored hosts may be identified as suspected of being infected with slow and/or distributed scanning malware for which the count value exceeds a threshold value.

A method for authenticating an operator of an AP includes: registering the operator's identity with a CA, by providing the operator's identification information and public key; creating a certificate including the foregoing; signing the certificate with the CA's private key; provisioning the AP with the signed certificate; provisioning a client with the CA's public key; sending a request from the client to the AP; generating a signature with the operator's private key; returning a reply to the client, including the AP provisioned certificate signed with the generated signature; using the client provisioned CA's public key to obtain the operator's public key from the certificate received in the reply; and, using the operator's public key obtained from the certificate received in the reply to verify the signature generated with the operator's private key and used by the AP to sign the certificate received in the reply.
