A system and method of reverse stage cementing in which flow into a casing string from an annulus between the casing string and wellbore walls is pressure dependent; the flow is blocked after stage completion. The flow enters the casing string through a cementing sub integrally formed in the casing string. A flapper valve is in a sidewall of the cementing sub that opens when pressure in the annulus reaches a threshold value, and remains open until the annulus pressure falls below the threshold value. Flapper valve actuation is controlled by a hinge spring that is calibrated to open and close the flapper valve based on the annulus pressure. Also in the cementing sub is a sleeve that is positioned behind the flapper valve after the reverse stage cementing is completed. Sleeve actuation is timed to allow adequate time for the flapper valve to return to the closed position.

Systems and methods for drilling a subterranean well with a drill bit include a drill bit body with a central bore. A plurality of ports extend through the nose end of the drill bit body from the central bore to an outside of the drill bit body. A blocked nozzle is located within one of the plurality of ports. The blocked nozzle has a nozzle bore end and a nozzle nose end opposite the nozzle bore end. A bore end disk is located at the nozzle bore end of the blocked nozzle, preventing a flow of fluids through the blocked nozzle past the bore end disk. A nose end disk is located at the nozzle nose end of the blocked nozzle, preventing the flow of fluids through the blocked nozzle past the nose end disk. The nose end disk and the bore end disk are removable.

Systems and methods for controlling a flow of fluid within a subterranean well includes a sensored electronic valve assembly having a one way valve member operable to allow a flow of fluids in a first direction through the one way valve member and to prevent the flow of fluids in a second direction through the one way valve member. An electronic circuit includes a battery having a battery life of a predetermined time and a command center. A sensor can detect a valve open signal and to deliver the valve open signal to the command center. An opening device is operable to move the one way valve member to a valve open position upon receipt of an engagement signal from the command center. The opening device is inoperable after the predetermined time. The one way valve member is operable to function as a one way valve after the predetermined time.

Sensored electronic valve for drilling and workover applications

Systems and methods for collecting debris in a subterranean well include a wellbore cleanout tool having a tool housing with a tool bore. The wellbore cleanout tool further includes a power source, a wire in electrical communication with the power source, and a core member located within the tool bore. The wire is wound around the core member with a first end and a second end of the wire in electrical connection with a positive terminal and a negative terminal of the power source, respectively. A plurality of magnetic bars are spaced around the core member. A sleeve member is moveable between an uphole position where the sleeve member circumscribes the plurality of magnetic bars, and a downhole position where the sleeve member is located downhole of a portion of the plurality of magnetic bars and can be a collection basket. The wellbore cleanout tool further has a permanent magnet.

Electromagnetic wellbore clean out tool

A powered articulated magnetic fishing tool having one or more knuckle or ball joints and a magnet to retrieve fish from a subterranean well and methods of retrieving the metallic object using the fishing tool. The fishing tool includes a magnet and one or more powered joints. The powered joints may each include or be coupled to a multi-axis position sensor that indicates the orientation of the joint and associated section downhole from the joint. The fishing tool may include a camera and a light located at the magnet end of the fishing tool. A system may include a human interface console located at the surface to control the fishing tool.

Systems and methods for neutralizing a hydrogen sulfide within a subterranean well include a hydrogen sulfide neutralizing tool having a tubular member. A tool shell circumscribes the tubular member, defining tool annular space between an outer diameter surface of the tubular member and an inner diameter surface of the tool shell. A sacrificial rod is located within the tool annular space and is formed of a material that produces metal sulfide when exposed to the hydrogen sulfide. An uphole perforation has an opening extending through a sidewall of the tubular member, defining a fluid flow path between the tool annular space and the internal bore of the tubular member. A downhole perforation is located downhole of the uphole perforation and hays an opening extending through the sidewall of the tubular member, defining a fluid flow path between the tool annular space and the internal bore of the tubular member.

Downhole hydrogen sulfide neutralizer

Provided are methods for drilling a well having a wellbore that extends into the earth and that encounters a salt layer. Such methods include determinations of subsurface salt mobility and salt balance load mud weight and the performance of salt mobility tests to determine salt creep and wellbore enlargement problems. A salt formation may be determined from well log data and a drilling rate. The presence of salt creep may be determined from torque generated by the drilling assembly and a hook load. The initial mud weight of a drilling fluid may be adjusted to a salt balance load mud weight (SBLMW) to mitigate or prevent salt creep during drilling.

Salt mobility assessment and review technique (smart) for exploratory wells

A method for reducing gas seepage into a cement slurry. The method includes adding a formulation to the cement slurry, the formulation comprising at least one component responsive to a predetermined concentration of hydrocarbon gas in the cement slurry, where upon the cement slurry reaching the predetermined concentration of hydrocarbon gas, the hydrocarbon gas undergoes at least a partial oxidation caused by the formulation to quicken the setting time of the cement slurry via release of heat by an exothermic reaction.

A downhole testing assembly includes a cylindrical body with a central bore extending between a first, uphole end of the cylindrical body and a second, downhole end opposite the first, uphole end of the cylindrical body; an open hole packer to engage and seal against an open hole surface of the wellbore to define a first open-hole zone of the wellbore downhole of the open hole packer; a first cased hole packer to engage and seal against a first portion of a casing of the wellbore to define a second open-hole zone of the wellbore between the first cased hole packer and the open hole packer; and a second cased hole packer to engage and seal against a second portion of the casing uphole of the first portion to define a cased zone of the wellbore between the second cased hole packer and the first cased hole packer.
