Capability exchange enhancements include filtering and/or indexing. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) determines UE capabilities to be reported to a network based on one or more of: one or more enquiries from the network, received system information, a home operator policy, configuration associated with public land mobile network (PLMN) information of one or more networks, a user preference, or a service type. In other aspects, a UE may report a subset of UE capabilities for features used for the connection establishment. Following connection establishment, the UE may use an identifier to communicate a more complete set of modes of operation that the UE is currently capable of performing. Base stations of the network may share the reported subset so that the UE may avoid transmitting the subset to a target base station.

Methods and apparatus for user equipment capability exchange

Methods, systems, and devices are described for enhanced power savings in wireless devices through mobile initiated dormancy procedure. A user equipment (UE) may establish radio resource control (RRC) connectivity with a base station of the network, and transmit and receive one or more distinct signaling messages for dormancy state initialization and suspension at the UE. Dormancy state implementation at the UE may conserve available power resources at the UE during periods of inactive data transaction. The one or more signaling messages may contain a single or multi-bit indication for the receiving device, and may be transmitted via direct signaling on upper layer protocols of the data network or mapped to allocated resources of a data transmission. The signaling messages may sustain synchronization between the interpreted functional mode of the UE at the base station and the implemented mode at the UE.

Enhanced power savings through mobile initiated dormancy

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for call continuity following radio link failure (RLF) through re-establishment of a voice call using a same or different radio access technology (RAT) before the call is dropped. Upon detection of RLF on a connection supporting a voice call, a UE may initiate a drop call timer and scan for available connections. The voice call may be attempted to be re-established if a connection is available on using a RAT of an existing connection. The voice call in such cases may continue without the call being dropped. Upon expiration of the drop call timer, the UE may attempt to establish a connection using a RAT identified during the duration of the drop call timer.

Voice call management techniques in wireless communications

Techniques are provided to initiate signal transmissions for possible opportunistic reception by a mobile device, and/or to initiate opportunistic reception of signal transmissions for use in mobile device position location estimation. For example, a mobile device may use assistance data to identify a first signal to be transmitted over a first frequency band and a second signal to be transmitted over a second frequency band during a specific period of time. At least a portion of the second frequency band may be outside of the first frequency band. The mobile device subsequently attempts to opportunistically receive at least the first signal and the second signal via a receiver tuned to a reception frequency band that encompasses at least the first frequency band and the second frequency band. The mobile device may then process the opportunistically received signals to obtain measurements corresponding to at least the first and second signals.

Opportunistic signal reception for mobile device position location estimation

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. One technique includes identifying, by a user equipment (UE), a periodic time window for the UE to access a network, and transmitting an indication of the periodic time window to the network in a random access channel transmission. The technique also describes receiving, from the network based at least in part on the periodic time window, an indication of uplink resources allocated to the UE during the identified periodic time window. Another technique includes receiving, from a UE in a random access channel transmission, an indication of a periodic time window for the UE to access the network. The technique also includes determining, based at least in part on the periodic time window, uplink resources for the UE to access the network during instances of the identified periodic time window and transmit an indication of the uplink resources.

Enhanced random access and wake-up mechanism

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for supporting a connected mode enhanced pruning procedure. A UE may select, while operating in connected mode with a first radio access technology (RAT), measurement candidates for a potential handover based on one or more criteria, maintain an active list including the selected measurement candidates, perform at least one measurement based, at least in part, on the active list, and take one or more actions based, at least in part, on the at least one measurement.

Examples described herein relate to systems and methods for a wireless communication device to manage cell measurements, including, but not limited to, performing measurements based on a first measurement configuration message received from a network, receiving a second measurement configuration message from the network before the measurements based on the first measurement configuration message are completed, and continuing to perform measurements based on the first measurement configuration message after receiving the second measurement configuration message.

A method and apparatus described include detecting a connection event after completing a Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection reconfiguration procedure with a base station. The method and apparatus include transmitting a connection release request message on a signaling radio bearer (SRB) to the base station in response to detecting the connection event. The method and apparatus include initiating a connection release timer in response to detecting the connection event. The method and apparatus include monitoring for a synchronization message from the base station. The method and apparatus include performing a first connection procedure to synchronize with the base station based on receiving the synchronization message from the base station prior to an expiration of the connection release timer.

Techniques for power savings in multi-SIM modems using extended LTE signaling

Examples described herein relate to apparatuses and methods for managing connection of a wireless communication device, including, but not limited to, receiving, by the wireless communication device, a call setup page from a network while in a connected mode, determining whether a data inactivity duration exceeds a threshold upon receiving the call setup page, transmitting a Scheduling Request (SR) probe to the network in response to determining that the data inactivity duration exceeds the threshold, determining whether an uplink grant corresponding to the SR probe has been received, and performing a local connection release in response to determining that the uplink grant corresponding to the SR probe has not been received.

The present disclosure provides a method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium that is able to avoid ping pong mobility when a redirection procedure fails. The apparatus may attempt to perform a redirection procedure from a first RAT to a target frequency of a second RAT. The apparatus may receive a redirection failure notification indicating that the target frequency of the second RAT is unavailable. The apparatus may refrain from initiating a reselection procedure to the target frequency of the second RAT for a predetermined time period. The apparatus may deprioritize the target frequency of the second RAT for the predetermined time period when the target frequency of the second RAT is unavailable and is present in an SIB received from the neighbor cell. The apparatus may generate a list of banned frequencies that includes the target frequency of the second RAT when the target frequency of the second RAT is unavailable.

In some aspects, a user equipment may receive sensor information from a sensor associated with the user equipment, wherein the user equipment is in a deep sleep mode when the sensor information is received. In an embodiment, a user equipment (UE) determines an emergency health condition for a user that is defined based on a set of health-related parameters crossing a corresponding set of thresholds. The UE receives health data from a set of health monitoring sensors that are each configured to monitor one or more health-related parameters of the user. The UE detects, while a restricted mode restricting access to a set of communicative functions of the UE is active, that the emergency health condition for the user exists based on the received health data indicating that the set of health-related parameters have crossed the corresponding set of thresholds. The UE disables the restricted mode in response to the detecting. The UE conveys, using one or more communicative functions from the set of communicative functions that are made available by the disabling of the restricted mode, an alarm related to the detected emergency health condition for the user.
