Rubber composition

This invention relates to a new and improved resin composition containing polyphenylene ether and, more particularly, to a molding resin composition including polyphenylene ether and cyclopentadiene resin containing a polar group. The new and improved resin composition has good melting flowability and retains good mechanical and thermal characteristics inherent to polyphenylene ether and can be suitably used as a molding material.

An ink composition for waterless plates for lithography, which comprises as the vehicle a resin (III) obtained by copolymerizing a five-membered compound, such as cyclopentadiene, and/or a Diels-Alder adduct thereof with an unsaturated aromatic hydrocarbon monomer to obtain a resin (I), reacting the resin (I) with an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or the anhydride thereof to obtain a resin (II) and then further reacting the resin (II) with a phenolic resin to obtain the resin (III).

Ink compositions for waterless plates

A method for preparing a resin having light color comprises the steps of: hydrogenating a compound represented by the formula (1) ##STR1## wherein l, m and n are integers of 0.ltoreq.l.ltoreq.3, 0.ltoreq.m.ltoreq.8 and l.ltoreq.n.ltoreq.3, respectively, and R.sup.1 and R.sup.6 each represent a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon residue having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, with or without R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 forming a ring, in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst containing a transition metal compound of the groups IV to VI of the Periodic Table and an organometallic compound of the groups I to III of the Periodic Table in combination to obtain a norbornene compound represented by the formula (2) ##STR2## wherein l, m, n and R.sup.1 and R.sup.6 are the same as above; and polymerizing the norbornene compound to give the resin having light color.

A positive type photoresist material comprises a polymer having structural units each represented by the following formula (I) of; ##STR1## wherein each of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.6 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon residue having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, each or R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or a hydrocarbon residue having 1 to 12 carbon atoms and Z represents--CH.sub.2 --.sub.n which n indicates an integer of 0 to 4.

Positive type photoresist material

Positive acting electron beam resist materials are described. The material comprises a polymer having fundamental units of the general formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 independently represent hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and R.sub.4 represents an organic residue having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms. The polymer may be used, as the resist material, as it is or by mixing with other type of resin.

Novel electron beam resist materials

The present invention is directed to a printing ink composition containing the reaction product of 5 to 100 parts by weight of a phenolic resin and about 100 parts by weight of a resin modified with an acid. The phenolic resin is prepared by condensing an appropriate 4-9 carbon alkylphenol with formalin. The modified resin is prepared by reacting 1 to 15 parts by weight of an appropriate unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or anhydride with about 100 parts by weight of the reaction product of 5 to 100 parts by weight straight-chain .alpha.-olefin with about 100 parts by weight of an appropriate pentacyclic compound, such as cyclopentadiene and/or dicyclopentadiene.

A hot melt composition is provided which comprises (1) a hydrogenated resin (II) having a softening point ranging from 50.degree. C. to 140.degree. According to the present invention, there is disclosed a process for producing a novel resin which comprises the step of copolymerizing a five-member cyclic compound (component A) having a conjugated double bond and represented by the general formula (A) given below: ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; m and n are zero or integers not less than 1 and are in the relation of m+n=6; and/or a Diels-Alder addition product thereof (A) with a co-dimer (component B) of said five-member cyclic compound and 1,3-butadiene by heating a mixture of 20 to 90 parts by weight of said component A and 80 to 10 parts by weight of said component B at a temperature of from 200.degree. C. to 350.degree. C. Also disclosed are a process for hydrogenating said novel resin to produce a novel hydrogenated resin and resin compositions containing said hydrogenated resin.

An offset printing ink composition is provided which contains a vehicle resin (III) prepared by reacting 5 to 100 parts by weight of a phenolic resin (component D) with 100 parts by weight of a modified resin (II) modified with an acid, said phenolic resin (component D) being prepared by the condensation of a phenol including an alkyl substituent group having 4 to 9 carbon atoms with formalin, said modified resin (II) modified with an acid being prepared by reacting 1 to 15 parts by weight of a component C selected from the group consisting of unsaturated carboxylic acids, unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydrides and mixtures thereof with 100 parts by weight of a resin (I) obtained by copolymerizing 5 to 50 parts by weight of a component B selected from the group consisting of drying oils, fatty acids and mixtures thereof with 100 parts by weight of a five-member cyclic compound (component A) having a conjugated double bond or bonds and a Diels-Alder addition product thereof, such as cyclopentadiene or dicyclopentadiene.

According to the invention there is provided a hot melt composition comprising (A) a hydrogenated resin having a softening point ranging from 60.degree. C. to 130.degree. C., said hydrogenated resin (A) being prepared by hydrogenating a resin at a hydrogenation percentage of aromatic rings of from 10 to 90%, said resin being prepared by copolymerizing at least two components comprising (a) 100 parts by weight of cyclopentadiene or its derivative selected from the group consisting of cyclopentadiene and dicyclopentadiene and an alkyl substituent thereof and (b) 5 to 50 parts by weight of indene or its derivative selected from the group consisting of indene and an alkyl substituent thereof and (B) one or more compound selected from the group consisting of ethylene-unsaturated ester copolymers, polyester resins and waxes.
