An actuator device and a method for manufacturing the actuator device, which is formed by stacking and rolling films of electrostrictive material into a cylindrical body and can ensure electrical connection with inner electrodes at both end portions of the cylindrical body. The actuator device is formed by stacking and rolling two films of electrostrictive material into a cylindrical body, the two films each having an inner electrode on one or both surfaces thereof. The cylindrical body has at least one cut portion at each end portion thereof, the cut portion being configured to reach the inner electrode (electrode pattern). By applying conductive ink to each of the cut portions, the conductive ink flows through the cut portions and reaches the inner electrodes on the films. By heat-hardening the conductive ink, it is possible to ensure electrical connection between outer and inner electrodes.

A laminate-type actuator including a laminate wherein an electrostrictive material layer is wound and laminated in a form of a tube together with first and second electrodes sandwiching the electrostrictive material layer therebetween is provided with high volume efficiency and high reliability. The tubular laminate includes a pair of flat portions facing each other and a pair of curved portions interconnecting the pair of flat portions circumferentially and specifying spaces inside the curved portions. In a cross-section perpendicular to an axis of the laminate, an outer width formed by the pair of flat portions is smaller than an outer width of each of the curved portions, and a distance between the pair of flat portions is smaller than an inner width of each of the curved portions.

An optical fiber connector includes first and second holders for holding first and second connection ends of first and second optical fibers, respectively, so that fiber end surfaces of the connection ends are butt-spliced by coupling the holders together. The first holder includes a first holder portion having a first holding groove for holding the top half of the first connection end and for allowing the bottom half thereof to be exposed. The first holding groove includes a pair of inclined planes for aligning the top half. The second holder is similar to the first holder except that the second holder is constructed such that the bottom half of the second connection end is held and aligned while the top half thereof is exposed. Additionally, the fiber end surfaces recede from the end surfaces of the corresponding holding portions, and the holding grooves oppose each other sandwiching the optical fiber therebetween. Thus, the receded portion of the first holding groove aligns the second optical fiber.
