A call system for performing a voice call by an Internet call function using a known telephone terminal. In a multifunction machine serving as the telephone terminal, the output destination and the input source of audio signals input/output from/to a transmitter/receiver may be switched to an audio I/F. In the switched state, audio based on audio signals input/output from/to an outside source through the audio I/F is output/input from the transmitter/receiver. Therefore, when the multifunction machine is connected to a PC having the Internet call function such that audio signals can be input/output through an audio cable, an indirect audio call by the Internet call function with the transmitter/receiver is available. When an incoming call from a telephone line network is received, reception of the incoming call is notified so that a user can confirm the reception of the incoming call during the voice call by the Internet call function.

The multifunction machine which functions as a telephone terminal equipment requests a connection to an Internet terminal equipment evoked from a transfer operation while the multifunction machine is connected to a telephone terminal equipment. The multifunction machine can be connected to the Internet terminal equipment if this Internet terminal equipment responds to the request. After the multifunction machine is connected to the both terminal equipments, an audio call among three parties; the multifunction machine, the telephone and Internet terminal equipments can be achieved with input/output sound corresponding to audio signals input/output between the multifunction machine and the respective terminal equipments from a telephone transmitter/receiver.

In S10, a CPU detects whether the transmission start button has been turned ON to request an automatic facsimile transmission. If so, then the telephone circuit is closed, and a dial tone is transmitted from an exchange system. After waiting three seconds after the dial tone has been received, then in S16, the CPU automatically retrieves an access code from a RAM and dials the access code. Upon receipt of the dial signal, the exchange system will set an interrupt prohibition, which will prohibit interruption during the communication just to be performed. Next in S20, the CPU retrieves a remote facsimile number from the RAM and dials the remote facsimile number. Once the line is connected with the remote facsimile machine, image information is transmitted from the facsimile machine to the remote facsimile machine in S22.
