Balloon catheters and methods of making and using the same. A balloon catheter may include a catheter shaft and a balloon coupled thereto. A traction member may be coupled to the balloon catheter adjacent the balloon and may extend along a portion or all of the length of the balloon. The traction member can improve traction between the balloon and a target site.

Traction balloon

Rapid exchange angioplasty catheters and methods of constructing rapid exchange angioplasty catheters including features that provide good pushability and kink resistance. In an illustrative embodiment, a catheter is provided, the illustrative catheter including a proximal hypotube section, which connects to a more distal braided catheter section. The braided catheter section connects to a midshaft portion that includes a guidewire entry port. Distal of the midshaft portion is a distal section having a balloon disposed thereon. An inflation lumen extends the length of the catheter, while a guidewire lumen extends only from the guidewire entry port to the distal end of the catheter. Optionally, a core wire may extend across the joint from the hypotube, to the braided catheter section, and past the guidewire entry port.

Medical device systems

The invention relates to multi-layer medical balloons. In one aspect, a medical device includes an inflatable balloon. The inflatable balloon includes a first layer including a material having a first modulus of elasticity, and a second layer adjacent the first layer, the second layer including a material having a second modulus of elasticity that differs from the first modulus of elasticity by at least about 2,000 psi. A cutting element is carried by the balloon.

An angioplasty balloon catheter and method of making and using the same. The balloon catheter may include a catheter shaft and a balloon coupled to the shaft. The balloon may include one or more cutting edges or member and may include a plurality of chambers defined therein.

Catheter having a cutting balloon including multiple cavities or multiple channels

A device for collapsing a balloon in the vasculature of a patient after an angioplasty procedure includes a balloon and at least one elastomeric member that is attached to the inner surface of the balloon at a plurality of attachment points. Preferably, the elastomeric member is an annular band that will stretch during balloon inflation. Consequently, when the balloon is deflated, the elastomeric member pulls on the balloon at its attachment points to return the balloon to a predetermined configuration, wherein the balloon collapses inwardly onto itself for subsequent removal of the balloon from the vessel.

Device and method for collapsing an angioplasty balloon

An angioplasty balloon catheter and method of making and using the same. The balloon catheter may include a catheter shaft and a balloon coupled to the shaft. The balloon may include one or more cutting edges coupled thereto. The shaft may include one or more inflation lumens and a plurality of openings defined therein that are in fluid communication with the inflation lumen or lumens.

Cutting balloon catheter with improved balloon configuration

Rapid exchange angioplasty catheters and methods of constructing rapid exchange angioplasty catheters including features that provide good pushability and kink resistance. In an illustrative embodiment, a catheter is provided, the illustrative catheter including a proximal hypotube section, which connects to a more distal braided catheter section. The braided catheter section connects to a midshaft portion that includes a guidewire entry port. Distal of the midshaft portion is a distal section having a cutting balloon disposed thereon. An inflation lumen extends the length of the catheter, while a guidewire lumen extends only from the guidewire entry port to the distal end of the catheter. Optionally, a core wire may extend across the joint from the hypotube, to the braided catheter section, and past the guidewire entry port.

Cutting balloon catheter with improved pushability

A combination of urethane polymeric components provides desired characteristics in forming medical instruments such as catheters and balloons for dilatation catheters. For example, a balloon material is formed form a blend of urethane polymeric components, including a first polymeric component having a first glass transition temperature and a second polymeric component having a second glass transition temperature. The first polymeric component can be branched or straight chain of thermoplastic polyurethane compound having a glass transition temperature polyurethane compound having a glass transition temperature higher than normal human body temperature. The second polymeric component can be a second thermoplastic polyurethane having a glass transition temperature equal to or lower than normal human body temperature. The polymeric blend can be heat treated to further enhance the properties or stability of the balloon material, including significantly increasing burst pressure.

Blended polyurethane interventional balloon

A single lumen rapid-exchange catheter includes a distal sealing port and a proximal sealing port both dimensioned for receiving a guidewire to establish a fluid-tight seal therewith. Each tubular shaped sealing port has a length, and a diameter, and is made of a hydrophilic polymer. In operation, the guidewire is inserted through the distal sealing port and exits from the catheter tube at the shoulder of the catheter tube and through the proximal sealing port. When fluid is present, each sealing port will enlarge to establish a fluid-tight seal with the guidewire. A diverter can be disposed at the proximal sealing port to redirect the guidewire from the lumen and out of the catheter tube through the proximal sealing port.
