Optical display unit, and sheet material and roll for use therein

Provided is a liquid crystal display in which occurrence of iridescent unevenness is suppressed, even when a film with high level of mechanical properties, chemical resistance and water-barrier properties is used as a polarizer-protective-film. Also, disclosed is a polarizing plate to be used in the liquid crystal display. The liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal cell, a light source, a first polarizing plate placed between the liquid crystal cell and the light source, and a second polarizing plate placed on a viewer side of the liquid crystal cell. The first polarizing plate includes a polarizer and a first protective film placed on a light source side principal surface of the first protective film, and the first protective film satisfies following relations: (i) 0 nm&#x2266;Re&#x2266;3000 nm; (ii) Nz&#x2267;5; and (iii) Rth&#x3e;2500 nm.

Liquid crystal display device and polarizing plate

Provided is an image display device including an image display cell and a polarizing plate placed on a viewer side of the image display cell. The first polarizing plate includes a polarizer and a first protective film. The first protective film is placed on a viewer-side principal surface of the polarizer and satisfies following relations: (i) 0 nm&#x2266;Re&#x2266;3000 nm; (ii) Nz&#x2267;7; and (iii) Rth&#x3e;2500 nm. Image display device having polarizer with polarizer protection

A method for manufacturing an optical display unit including a substrate and an optical member having a polarizer, the optical member being bonded to the substrate with an adhesive interposed therebetween. The method includes a cutting step of feeding a continuous sheet material from a roll of the continuous sheet material, the continuous sheet material including the optical member and a release film provided on one side of the optical member with the adhesive interposed therebetween, and cutting the continuous sheet material by cutting means, while leaving the release film uncut, and a bonding step including bonding the sheet material to the substrate with the adhesive interposed therebetween, while removing the release film. When no external force is applied to the sheet material, the sheet material curls in the longitudinal direction so that the release film is facing inward.

To provide a pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet for dicing which inhibits the generation of fibrous scraps and has good expandability. Pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet for dicing and method for processing processed material using the same

An adhesive sheet for dicing comprising a base film provided at least one surface thereof with an adhesive layer, wherein the base film comprises an olefinic thermoplastic elastomer comprising propylene and ethylene and/or &#x3b1;-olefin including 4 to 8 carbon atoms as polymerization components, and the peak melting temperature of the olefinic thermoplastic elastomer is 120&#xb0; C. or more, is free of economical disadvantages with less reduction in the quality level of products and less generation of fibrous off-cuts during dicing. In particular, fibrous off-cuts occur less during dicing when the base film contains a crystal-nucleating agent. Further, generation of chippings during dicing can be prevented by incorporation of an ethylene series polymer into the base film.

Adhesive sheet for dicing

Provided are a UV-curable pressure-sensitive adhesive composition comprising a photoinitiator which has a molar absorptivity at 365 nm of at least 1,000 mol&#xb7;cmand the maximum absorption wavelength of at least 420 nm on a long wavelength side; and an adhesive sheet having a layer of the composition disposed over a photo-transmitting base film. The pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet according to the invention can be cured even by exposure to ultraviolet rays at a low intensity or for short time so that it can contribute to energy saving and productivity improvement as a sheet for processing, fixation or surface protection of a semiconductor wafer.

UV-curable pressure-sensitive adhesive composition and its pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet

A pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet for dicing is disclosed which can prevent the generation of a fibrous waste during dicing without having a decrease in product quality or a disadvantage in cost. The pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet for dicing comprises a substrate film and formed thereon a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer for adhesively fixing a material to be diced, wherein the substrate film has a single- or multilayer structure wherein at least the layer thereof in contact with the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer comprises a semi- or non-compatibilized polymer blend comprising two or more polymers. At least one of the polymers constituting the polymer blend may be a highly crystalline olefin resin having a crystallinity of 40% or higher and the content of this polymer in the polymer blend may be from 1 to 50% by weight. Furthermore, at least one of the polymers constituting the polymer blend may be a lowly crystalline olefin resin having a crystallinity lower than 40% and the content of this polymer in the polymer blend may be from 50 to 99% by weight.
