An electrical energy recovery, storage, and distribution system that may be used in a vehicle. The system may include a supercapacitor configured to quickly store large amounts of energy. The system may also include multiple circuits operating at different voltage levels, such that an output voltage from the supercapacitor is useful over a larger voltage range and the system is more energy efficient.

Energy recovery using supercapacitors

A cooling system comprises a liquid storage tank and liquid disposed within the liquid storage tank. A first heat exchanger is immersed within the liquid, wherein refrigerant from an air conditioning system flows through the first heat exchanger. A second heat exchanger is also immersed within the liquid, wherein coolant from a load cooling system flows through the second heat exchanger.

Augmented cooling system for vehicles powered by fuel cells

A cooling system comprises a liquid hydrogen storage tank, a liquid hydrogen metering pump having a pump inlet in fluid communication with the liquid hydrogen storage tank, and a pump outlet, a hydrogen evaporator heat exchanger having an evaporator inlet in fluid communication with the pump outlet, and an evaporator outlet, a hydrogen gas accumulator having an accumulator inlet in fluid communication with the evaporator outlet, and an accumulator outlet, a hydrogen fuel cell system comprising at least one hydrogen fuel cell having a fuel cell inlet in fluid communication with the accumulator outlet, and a coolant circuit comprising a first coolant path disposed in thermal contact with the hydrogen evaporator heat exchanger.

Supplemental cooling systems for fuel cell powered vehicles with liquid hydrogen

A stabilizing arrangement of a cooling system module of a vehicle includes stabilizer pins attached to the vehicle cooling system module. Stabilizer slots are incorporated into a component of the chassis of the vehicle, such as a frame extender. The stabilizer slots may be formed as an upwards opening U-shape. Bushings are attached to the stabilizer pins. The stabilizer pins and bushings extend laterally into and engage with the stabilizer slots. Upon installation, the stabilizer pins and bushings are aligned with the stabilizer slots as the cooling system module is lowered onto the ISO mounts. The stabilizer pins and bushings slide vertically downwards into the stabilizer slots as the cooling system module is lowered into place. The simpler stabilizer pins, bushings, and stabilizer slots thereby take the place of expensive, time consuming, complex, labor intensive, and space consuming stay rod arrangements.

Stabilizers for a vehicle cooling module

A vehicle has a waste heat recovery (WHR) system and an engine. The WHR system includes a WHR working fluid circuit with a pump, a power turbine, and a condenser. An engine coolant circuit circulates coolant between the engine and an engine coolant heat exchanger/working fluid boiler in the WHR working fluid circuit. At least one exhaust gas heat exchanger/superheater in the WHR working fluid circuit receives waste heat from an exhaust circuit and/or from an exhaust gas recirculation circuit. A working fluid cooled charge air cooler in the WHR working fluid circuit receives waste heat from compressed charge air in a charge air intake circuit. A recuperator may transfer waste heat from working fluid passing from the power turbine to the condenser to working fluid passing from the working fluid cooled charge air cooler to the engine coolant heat exchanger/working fluid boiler.

Engine cooling configurations with waste heat recovery system

A control strategy for a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine has a repeating cycle of accelerating the vehicle during a more fuel efficient acceleration phase of the cycle followed by a deceleration phase of the cycle which uses little or no fuel.

Engine power modulation in a vehicle

An EGR cooler core has multiple tubes for conveying engine exhaust gas. Tube inlets are joined to a flat inlet header plate at tube/header plate joints in a flat zone of the inlet header plate. An endless groove in the inlet header plate circumscribes the joints while reducing a constant nominal thickness of the header plate in the flat zone along the groove without creating an opening through the header plate. This gives some compliance to the flat zone for mitigation of stresses induced by tube growth.
