The present invention provides a polymer optical waveguide having a core, an under cladding and an over cladding, in which: the polymer optical waveguide has a first section on one end side in the light propagation direction where no portion of the over cladding exists and the core and the under cladding are exposed, and a second section on the other end side in the light propagation direction where the core is covered with the under cladding and the over cladding; and a relative refractive index difference among the core, the under cladding and the over cladding, a core width and core height in an end surface at the one end side of the first section, and a core width and core height in an end surface at the other end side of the second section satisfy predetermined relationships.

Polymer optical waveguide and composite optical waveguide

The present invention relates to a polymer optical waveguide including: a core; an under-cladding; and an over-cladding, in which the polymer optical waveguide includes a coupling section and an optical waveguide section that are provided along a light propagation direction, the polymer optical waveguide includes portions having different core widths along the light propagation direction, and when a core width at a portion a having a narrowest core width is denoted Wa (&#x3bc;m) and a core height at the portion a is denoted Ha (&#x3bc;m), Ha is 1.3 &#x3bc;m or more and 4.5 &#x3bc;m or less, and Ha/Wa is 1.15 or less.

The present invention provides a polymer optical waveguide containing: a core; and a cladding having a refractive index lower than that of the core, provided around the core, in which the polymer optical waveguide has a core-coupling section where at least a part of the cladding is not present along a light propagation direction of the polymer optical waveguide and an application type removal film A provided so as to come into contact with the core of the core-coupling section.

The present invention relates to a resin optical waveguide including a core and a cladding having a refractive index lower than that of the core, in which the resin optical waveguide includes, along a light propagation direction, a coupling part at which at least a part of the core is exposed and an optical waveguide part where the whole circumference of the core is covered with the cladding, and the core has a width Wb at an end part of the coupling part at a side of the optical waveguide part being larger than a width Wa of the core at an end part of the coupling part at a side opposite to the optical waveguide part.

Provided is a resin optical waveguide containing a core, under cladding and over cladding, in which the resin optical waveguide has portions having a core width varying along a light propagation direction, the maximum core width is 4 to 10 &#x3bc;m, and the minimum core width of 1 &#x3bc;m or more and less than 4 &#x3bc;m, when the length of a portion S at which the core width is 1 &#x3bc;m or more and less than 4 &#x3bc;m is LS and the length of a portion at which the core width is 4 to 10 &#x3bc;m is LL, the proportion of LS to the total length is 0.1 to 40%, and the portion S contains neither a certain bubble defect nor a certain defect inside the core and in a vicinity of a core-cladding interface.

Resin optical waveguide

A resin optical waveguide containing a core, an under cladding and an over cladding having refractive indices lower than that of the core, in which the resin optical waveguide has, at one end side of, a core-exposed section at which the over cladding is not present and the core and the under cladding nearby the core are exposed and, of the under cladding, a portion corresponding to the core-exposed section has a first layer and a second layer that satisfy a certain condition.

Composite optical waveguide

A resin optical waveguide containing a core, an under cladding and an over cladding having refractive indices lower than that of the core, in which the resin optical waveguide has, at one end side thereof, a core-exposed section at which the over cladding is not present and the core is exposed and, of the under cladding, a portion corresponding to the core-exposed section has a core-neighboring region that satisfies the following (1) and (2): (1) the core-neighboring region is a region whose distance from the core is within x, and x is 5 &#x3bc;m or more and 20 &#x3bc;m or less; and (2) the core-neighboring region has a refractive index distribution that the refractive index at a side of an interface with the core is high and the refractive index at a far side from the interface with the core is low.

The present invention relates to an optical waveguide containing: a core formed by curing (A) a fluorine-containing polyarylene prepolymer having a crosslinkable functional group; and a cladding formed by curing (I) a curable composition containing (B) a compound having a molecular weight of 140 to 5,000, having a crosslinkable functional group and having no fluorine atom, and (A) a fluorine-containing polyarylene prepolymer.
