Disclosed is a bacteria analyzing method comprising: irradiating with light a measurement sample prepared by mixing a specimen and a reagent; obtaining two types of optical information from each of at least some particles contained in the measurement sample; and generating a measurement result of the specimen with a flag representing morphological characteristics of bacteria contained in the specimen based on both of: (i) information indicative of a characteristic of a distribution pattern of particles plotted in a first region of a coordinate space including at least two axes, wherein the two types of optical information are scalable along the respective axes, and (ii) information representing a number of particles plotted in a second region being a part of the first region.

A urine sample analyzer is disclosed. A measurement specimen containing a urine sample flows through flow cell, and light is applied to the measurement specimen flowing through flow cell. Then, a signal corresponding to light received from particles contained in the urine sample is acquired. Disclosed is a sample analyzer for analyzing a sample, including: a preparing unit that mixes a sample, a surfactant-containing diluent, and a nucleic acid staining reagent to prepare a measurement specimen in which nucleic acids of nucleated cells are stained and red blood cells are hemolyzed; a detecting unit that irradiates particles included in the measurement specimen with light to receive scattered light and fluorescence light emitted from the particles and output a detection signal; and a processing unit that counts white blood cells and fungi in the sample based on the detection signal.
