A liquid crystal device including a first substrate including a plurality of picture elements; a second substrate including a common electrode; and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched therebetween. The first substrate and the second substrate are arranged to be opposite to each other, and each of the plurality of picture elements has a plurality of elongated electrodes configured to apply voltages to the liquid crystal layer in cooperation with the common electrode. The elongated electrodes within one of the plurality of picture elements extend in eight directions, and each of the plurality of picture elements is divided into eight regions based upon the eight directions. In each of the eight regions of one of the plurality of picture elements, two or more of the plurality of elongated electrodes extend along a corresponding one of the eight directions.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device including a first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes a plurality of picture elements, and at least one of the plurality of picture elements includes: a switching element; a plurality of gate bus lines extending in a first direction and electrically connected to the switching element; a plurality of data bus lines extending in a second direction and electrically connected to the switching element; a first sub picture element electrode and a second sub picture element electrode disposed adjacent to the first sub picture element electrode with a gap therebetween, and a control electrode overlapping both the first and second sub picture element electrodes. The control electrode extends in the second direction. Each of the first and second sub picture element electrodes includes a cross-shaped connecting electrode part and microelectrode parts extending from the connecting electrode part.

A liquid crystal panel () includes (i) a CF substrate () on which a color filter is to be formed, (ii) a TFT substrate () on which a thin film transistor is to be formed, (iii) a sealing material () for sealing liquid crystal injected between the CF substrate () and the TFT substrate (), (iv) a liquid crystal inlet () through which the liquid crystal is injected, and (v) structures () provided between a cut surface among cut surfaces of the liquid crystal panel (), on which cut surface the liquid crystal inlet () is to be formed, and edges () of the sealing material (). The technology presented herein has a feature of providing a liquid crystal display device of an excellent viewing angle characteristic and high brightness, including: liquid crystals containing polymerizable monomers between a first substrate with a pixel electrode having micro slits and a second substrate facing the first substrate; wherein the monomers are polymerizable with voltage applied to the liquid crystals; and an alignment orientation of the liquid crystals is controllable to a direction of extending the micro slit, wherein the pixel electrode includes: a direct coupling part electrically connected to a switching element; a capacitive coupling part electrically insulated from the switching element, and a space between the direct and capacitive coupling parts, wherein directions in which the micro slits are extended along the direct and capacitive coupling parts are orthogonal to each other.

A liquid crystal display device including first and second substrates; liquid crystal contained between the substrates; a polymer which determines directions in which liquid crystal molecules tilt; a plurality of gate and data bus lines; and a plurality of picture elements. At least one of the picture elements includes a switching element, and first and second sub picture element electrodes. The first sub picture element electrode connects to the switching element and the second sub picture element electrode connects, via capacitive coupling, to the switching element. The first substrate further includes a control electrode that is connected to the switching element and the first sub picture element electrode. The control electrode is capacitively coupled to the second sub picture element electrode through an insulating film. The area of the second sub picture element electrode is larger than the area of the first sub picture element electrode.

A liquid crystal display device including first and second substrate, with liquid crystal contained therebetween; a plurality of gate bus lines; a plurality of drain bus lines; and first and second sub picture element electrodes. The first sub picture element electrode is not in contact with the second sub picture element electrode. The invention relates to a liquid crystal display used as a display unit of an electronic apparatus and provides a liquid crystal display which can achieve high display quality. The liquid crystal display includes a pair of substrates provided opposite to each other, a liquid crystal having negative dielectric constant anisotropy sealed between the substrates, an alignment film formed on each of surfaces of the substrates facing each other for vertically aligning the liquid crystal, the film being formed using a material including an epoxy type cross linking agent at a concentration in the range from 0% by weight to 0.01% by weight inclusive, and a polymer layer for regulating the direction of alignment of the liquid crystal formed in the vicinity of an interface between the liquid crystal and the alignment film as a result of polymerization of a polymeric component included in the liquid crystal.

Liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display device including first and second substrates with liquid crystal contained therebetween, and a plurality of picture elements located on the first substrate. Each of the picture elements is defined between a pair of gate bus lines and a pair of data bus lines. At least one of the picture elements includes a switching element connected to one of the data bus lines, a first sub picture element electrode, and a second sub picture element electrode. At least one of the first and second sub picture element electrodes has a body portion and a plurality of branches that extend from the body portion. A neighboring two of the branches are parallel with each other. The first sub picture element electrode connects to the switching element, and the second sub picture element electrode connects, via capacitive coupling, to the switching element.

A substrate for a liquid crystal display including a plurality of gate bus lines and a plurality of data bus lines that cross the gate bus lines, as well as a thin film transistor connected to one of the data bus lines. The display also includes a first electrode with a body portion and a plurality of branches extending from the body portion, wherein at least some of the branches include a first branch portion, which extends from the body portion and defines a first angle, and a second branch portion, which extends from the first branch portion, and which defines a second angle. The first angle is greater than said second angle, and both angles are between 0&#xb0; and 90&#xb0; Also included is a second electrode that overlaps at least a portion of the first electrode, and an insulation film between the first and second electrodes.

At least one of the picture elements includes a switching element, a first sub picture element electrode with a plurality of band-shaped microelectrode parts and a first connecting electrode part electrically connecting the microelectrode parts with one another, and a second sub picture element electrode including a plurality of band-shaped microelectrode parts and a second connecting electrode part electrically connecting the microelectrode parts of the second sub picture element electrode with one another. A voltage applied to the second sub picture element electrode is different from a voltage applied to the first sub picture element electrode.

The invention relates to a liquid crystal display used as a display unit of an electronic apparatus and a method of manufacturing the same and provides a liquid crystal display which can achieve high display quality and a method of manufacturing the same. A liquid crystal including a polymeric component and having a specific resistance of 1&#xd7;10&#x3a9;&#xb7;cm or more at room temperature (25&#xb0; C.) is dispensed onto a TFT substrate. After combining the TFT substrate with an opposite substrate in vacuum, the atmospheric pressure is restored to fill a gap between the TFT substrate and the opposite substrate with the liquid crystal, thereby forming a liquid crystal layer. The polymeric component is polymerized while applying a predetermined voltage to the liquid crystal layer to form polymer layers.

Liquid crystal display and method of manufacturing the same

A liquid crystal display device including first and second substrates, liquid crystal between the substrates, a plurality of gate bus lines extending in a first direction, a plurality of drain bus lines extending in a second direction, and a picture element electrode. The picture element electrode includes a body portion and a plurality of branches, separated by slits, extending therefrom. The body portion includes a first body portion extending generally in the first direction and a second body portion extending generally in the second direction, and further wherein the first body portion includes at least one wide portion and at least one narrow portion. The liquid crystal display device also includes a capacitor electrode and a capacitor upper electrode that overlap the wide portion. The capacitor upper electrode connects to the picture element electrode through a contact hole formed at the wide portion.
