A method for quantitatively assessing muscle contraction of a facial muscle in a person and determining the ability of a treatment material to reduce contraction of the facial muscle is disclosed. The method can include applying an external electrical stimulus to facial skin sufficient to contract a facial muscle, measuring the contractile activity of the contracted facial muscle by measuring the compound motor action potential (CMAP) of the contracted facial muscle to obtain a first average measurement of contractile activity of the contracted facial muscle, administering the treatment material by topically applying the treatment material to the facial skin, and repeating steps (a) and (b) to obtain a second average measurement of contractile activity of the contracted facial muscle.

Method for determining facial muscle responses

A method for topically treating skin is disclosed. The method can include applying to skin a composition that includes tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate,fruit extract,extract, and retinol, wherein topical application of the composition treats the skin.

Cosmetic composition

A method for reducing muscle contraction of a facial muscle or reducing the appearance of a fine line or wrinkle is disclosed. The method can include topical application of a composition to facial skin and/or to the fine line or wrinkle. The composition can include an effective amount ofleaf extract, an effective amount ofextract, and an effective amount ofextract. Topical application of the composition to facial skin can reduce muscle contraction of the facial muscle. Topical application of the composition to the fine line or wrinkle can reduce the appearance of the fine line or wrinkle.

Topical muscle relaxation compositions and methods

Methods of use and compositions useful for reducing lines and wrinkles, evening skin tone, lightening skin tone, increasing skin radiance, elasticity, skin barrier function, and/or skin firmness, reducing photodamage, reducing sagging skin, inhibiting anti-oxidant capacity in skin, MMP-1, MMP-3, MMP-9, pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., lipoxygenase, IL-6, Il-8, TNF-&#x3b1;, or VEGF), and/or elastase expression in skin, and/or increasing collagen expression in skin, elastin expression in skin, laminin expression in skin, and/or fibronectin expression in skin are disclosed herein. The compositions can additionally reduce or mitigate unwanted side effects shown in other retinol products such as erythema or redness in skin, skin dryness, peeling or flaking of skin, and/or skin irritation including without limitation, burning, stinging, itching, or tingling. The composition includes a combination of one or more ofleaf extract,fruit extract, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, retinol,extract,leaf extract,oil, and/or saccharide isomerate.
