An electrical connector for electrically connecting circuit boards together comprising a plug connector (10,40) having plug contacts (13,43) secured in an insulating housing (11a, 11b, 41a) at spaced intervals therealong; a receptacle connector (20,30,50,60) having receptacle contacts secured in an insulating housing (21,31,52a,62a) for electrical engagement with respective plug contacts (13,43) When the connectors are mated; the receptacle contacts and the plug contacts have interlocking sections (17,28,35,43b, 56a,66a) which are interlocked when the connectors are connected together thereby preventing their disengagement.

Surface mount connector

An electrical connector (10) includes a first housing part (20) fixed to a circuit board and a second housing part (30) fitted within the first housing part and spaced therefrom to alow limited X, Y, and Z movement between such parts, contacts (40) are provided including solder post portions (42) mounted in the first housing part and contact portions (41) in the second housing part adapted to engage the contacts of a mating housing. The contact portions (41) and (42) are interconnected by an integral S-shaped spring (43) to facilitate limited and resilient movement of the contact portions and housing parts to relieve stresses and strains caused by mating and unmating of components, including further connectors to a circuit board through the connector. An alternative embodiment (10') includes legs (42') and a J-shaped contact portions (40') in the second housing part (30') with the connector (10') being adapted to be surface mounted and soldered on a circuit board.

Connector with flexible mounting features

An electrical connector (10) includes a plastic housing (12) of a configuration to fit through an aperture (32) of a printed circuit board (30) having circuits (34) on the undersurface (33) thereof with the connector housing having wing portions (14) carrying contact portions (26) adapted to engage the circuits of the underside of the printed circuit board and be soldered thereto to minimize the overall height of the assembly formed of the connector and board.

Electrical contact

An electrical connector (10,20,30,40) having an insulating housing (11,21,31,41) and electric contacts (14,24,34,44) therein has been disclosed. The electric contacts (14,24,34,44) are individually formed by removing selected parts (53,55,56,58,59,61,62) from stamped electric contact elements (50). The housing (11,21,31,41) includes cavities (12,32) opening on a front surface and cavities (22,42) opening on a back surface.

Electrical connector and electric contact therefor

An electrical connector comprises electrical contacts (1) having termination slots (2) for cutting into insulation (4a) of an electrical conductor (4) when electrical conductor (4) is forced into slots (2) with edges of slots (2) electrically engaging conductor core (4b) of electrical conductor (4). An insulated housing (10) has openings (11) for receiving and retaining electrical contacts (1) therein and including conductor-retention grooves (12) opening outwardly for receiving a portion of the electrical conductors (4) therein. Conductor-retention arms (13) are located at an open end of the conductor-retention grooves (12) for retaining electrical conductors (4) therein. Projections (14) are located on the conductor-retention arms (13) for clampingly engaging insulation (4a) of electrical conductors (4) providing an axial strain relief thereon and to prevent shrinkage of the insulation away from the termination between conductors (4) and slots (2).

Electrical connector housing having conductor-retention means

An electrical connector (10) for receiving a ribbon cable (20) has been disclosed. The connector (10) includes a plurality of contacts (14) in a housing (11) and a cover (12) which is movable towards the contacts (14) to cam open wire retaining sections (15) thereon. The housing further includes projections (11a) which prevent the ribbon cable (20) from being bent over and pushing the cover (12) down to inadvertently release the wires (21) of the cable from the wire retaining sections (15).

Electrical connector

An electrical connector (21) comprises a dielectric housing (20) having apertures in which contact sections (6) of electrical contacts (2) are secured while termination sections (10) of the contacts (2) extend at a 45 degree angle with respect to the contact sections (2) and along a bottom surface (23) of the housing (20) so that the termination sections (10) are parallel and extend outwardly from at least one of the side walls of the housing (20) for connection to conductive members on a circuit board. Connector (40), 40a-c) is provided with contacts (2a) having tines (34) for disposition in holes (32) in a circuit board (31) for connection to conductive areas on a bottom surface (31') of the board while termination sections of contacts (2) are connected to conductive areas on an upper surface (31') of the board (31).

Electrical connector for surface mounting onto circuit boards

A hinged electrical connector comprises connector members (1, 2) mounted onto circuit boards (11a, 11a) and hingedly connected together by shafts (4) and recesses (6). Receptacle contact sections (8a) of receptacle contacts (8) in connector member (2) have low-pressure contact members (22) in electrical engagement with outer ends (13) of tab contact sections (7b) of tab contacts (7) in connector member (1) when the circuit board (11a, 11b) are parallel to one another (FIG. 7A). High-pressure contact members (23) of the receptacle contact sections (8a) are in electrical engagement with inner sections (13') of the tab contact sections (7b) when the circuit boards (11a, 11b) are at a right angle with respect to one another (FIG. 7C).

Hinged electrical connector

A hinged electrical connector comprises a receptacle connector (RC) and a tab connector (TC) that are hingedly connected together by hinge members (3, 4, 5a, 6), the connectors having coplanar receptacle contact sections (12) of receptacle contacts (7) electrically engaged with tab contact sections (14) of tab contacts (8) and conductor-engaging sections (9,10) electrically engaged with conductive areas of circuit boards (11a, 11b) enabling the boards to be moved between angular positions and maintained thereat.
