A printing apparatus for printing on printing media in a continuous business form. The apparatus includes a transport device, a detector for detecting a splice portion between the printing media transported by the transport device, a printing section for printing on the printing media transported by the transport device, a drying section for drying at a drying temperature the printing media printed in the printing section and transported by the transport device, and a controller for operating the transport device to reduce tension applied to the splice portion at least while the splice portion is located in the drying section.

At least one of an upstream drive roller and a downstream drive roller is operated, after printing on web paper and at a time of transportation halt of the web paper, to make a tension value of the web paper between the upstream drive roller and downstream drive roller lower than a tension value at a time of transporting the web paper, so that at least part of contact portions of the web paper in contact with five cooling rollers separate from the five cooling rollers. Consequently, gaps can be produced between the contact portions of the web paper in contact with the five cooling rollers and the five cooling rollers. This can reduce waterdrops due to dew condensation adhering to the web paper. As a result, paper break can be inhibited at a time of starting transportation of the web paper.

The apparatus includes a drive roller transporting the web paper, a transportation velocity detector detecting a transportation velocity of the web paper, an encoder generating a timing reference signal of the printing by the printing unit in accordance with transportation of the web paper, the encoder being disposed in a transport roller, a printing correction data generator generating printing correction data in accordance with the transportation velocity and the timing reference signal so as to correspond to a time-dependent variation of the transport roller provided with the encoder; and an offset corrector correcting the printing of the inkjet printing unit to the web paper in accordance with the printing correction data.

Transport device and inkjet printing apparatus having the same

Web paper is transported by roll with two or more drive rollers. The two adjacent drive rollers each have difference in rotation speed in accordance with a draw ratio. Accordingly, tension is applied to the web paper. Tension of the web paper between the adjacent drive rollers is detected by a tension sensor. A tension controller controls the detected tension value so as to be a target tension value. A predictive control device predicts decrease in tension during an initial printing period where tension control is not stable, and increases rotation speeds of the drive rollers downstream of a print unit to suppress the decrease in tension. Consequently, tension acting on the web paper is appropriately controlled also during the initial printing period, resulting in possible reduction in printing quality.

A transport device which accomplishes transport well by means of a linear motor mechanism well even if a chain is elongated. The transport uses the chain in a first transport section, and the linear motor mechanism in a second transport section. A coupling pin of the chain is disengaged from a chain coupling portion of a table when the table is transferred to the second transport section and the coupling pin is brought into engagement with the chain coupling portion again when the table is transferred to the first transport section. A driving speed at which a pair of rotary members are driven by the chain driving mechanism is corrected in accordance with the elongated condition of the chain, based on a count of driving pulses in the chain driving mechanism during the passage of the coupling pin through the second transport section.

An image recording apparatus includes a plurality of linear motor mechanisms for transporting a plurality of tables in a first transport section including at least an area in which an image is recorded on recording media, and an endless transport mechanism for transporting the plurality of tables in at least a second transport section contiguous with the first transport section and capable of transporting the plurality of tables in the first transport section. The image recording apparatus further includes an unused linear motor mechanism determination part for determining an unused linear motor mechanism. When the unused linear motor mechanism is determined, the endless transport mechanism is used as an alternative to transport at least one of the tables which is to be transported in the first transport section but which is able to be transported by none of the plurality of linear motor mechanisms. If a malfunctioning linear motor mechanism is present because of a breakage, an operation anomaly and the like, the image recording apparatus achieves the image recording while maintaining the accuracy of the recorded image although the throughput thereof decreases.

Recording medium transport device in image recording apparatus

A printing device reads an image on a printing paper with an image pickup part. It image-processes obtained image data in a control part, and operates the positions of respective register marks (R to R ). It operates the quantity of displacement necessary for positioning an image. It obtains an offset count number Co for deciding an image recording starting position from the obtained quantity of displacement. It stores the obtained offset count number Co while obtaining starting position data. Then, dimensional correction data for the image is calculated. The image on the printing paper is first picked up, and the necessary quantity of displacement is calculated. A speed coefficient k is calculated for changing the rotational speed of a plate cylinder. Following this, a correction quantity by a Cd default count number previously set for deciding the image recording starting position is changed. Accordingly, the offset count number Co is calculated again on the basis of the obtained speed variable k. The obtained speed coefficient k and the offset count number Co are stored, and starting position data is obtained from both data.
