Coating composition capable of forming a thick coating film

This invention provides a paint composition which comprises a film-forming resin component comprising from 65 to 95 parts by weight of a hydroxyl-containing polyester resin (A) having a number average molecular weight of from 1,500 to 35,000, a glass transition temperature of from &minus;30&deg; C. to 60&deg; C. and a hydroxyl value of from 3 to 100 mg KOH/g; and 5-35 parts by weight of a melamine resin crosslinking agent (B) which is a methylolated melamine resin whose methylol groups are alkyl etherified, at least 20% of the total number of methylol groups therein having been etherified with a C,-C,alkyl group; and (C) 0.1 to 2.0 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the total resin component, of a curing catalyst.
