Proposed is a height adjusting mechanism for a tiller handle () of an outboard motor (). An adjustment piece () is detachably attached to the front end of a handle support bracket () which extends rearwards from the outboard motor main body (). The adjustment piece is configured to be attached to the front end of the handle support member in two or more different positions and provided with a corresponding number of spacer portions (-) having different thicknesses so as to interpose a selected one of the spacer portions between corresponding stopper surfaces () of the tiller handle and handle support bracket depending on the positions of the adjustment piece. Thereby, the height adjusting mechanism for the tiller handle is avoided from protruding laterally or vertically from the base end of the tiller handle so that the external appearance is not impaired and interferences with the surrounding parts can be effectively prevented. Also, the height of the tiller handle can be selected from two or more possible positions.

Tiller handle for outboard motors

An outboard engine with a cover for allowing for an improved outward appearance is disclosed. The engine includes a leg case that houses a drive shaft for transmitting the output from the engine to a propeller. The cover covers the leg case. The cover is formed integrally, and a front part is designed to be opened. The front part is opened and is made to encase and cover a periphery of the leg case.

Outboard engine

In an outboard marine drive, an engine is supported on an engine mount case, and an under cover made of plastic material having a lower end attached to the engine mount case defines an open upper end which engages an open lower end of an engine cover also made of plastic material. A metallic stay member having a lower end fixedly attached to the engine mount case which is typically made of cast aluminum alloy and an upper end fixedly supporting a support rail reinforces the open upper end of the under cover. Thus, the essential part is reinforced by a metallic member, and the required mechanical strength can be achieved while minimizing the increase in weight. The upper end of the stay member may be used for attaching a latch unit for securing the engine cover to the under cover or the engine mount case.

Engine cover arrangement for an outboard marine drive

An outboard engine assembly is provided for dividing an engine room into two room sections with a sealing property to protect an air intake system from being adversely affected with heat generated by an exhaust system. The outboard engine assembly has a wall means serving as a partition wall to divide the engine room into two room sections. The wall means has a profile formed in a thick string which is placed between an outer side wall of a cylinder head cover and an inner side wall of an engine cover. In one of the two room sections, the air intake system is located for supplying intake air to a combustion chamber of an engine from outside. In the other one of the two room sections, the exhaust system is located for expelling exhaust emissions outside from the engine.

Outboard engine assembly

An outboard engine with a grip recess formed on a part of an engine cover surface. The grip recess can be used as a handle by inserting an operator's hand thereinto. The outboard engine may be lifted up by using the grip recess as a handle during a tilt-up operation. This allows the outboard engine to be rotated upwardly easily about a tilt axis.

Outboard marine drive including an engine under cover made of plastic material

Air intake guide is provided within an engine cover and surrounded by a wall that is provided independently of an inner surface of the engine cover. The air intake guide has one end communicating with an air intake opening of the engine cover and the other end opening into an engine room.

Outboard engine unit

An outboard motor according to the present invention has a generator. The outboard motor has a first passage for supplying air from above the generator and a second passage for supplying air from below the generator, so as to cool the generator. The first and second passages communicate with an air inlet opening provided in a front surface of an engine cover in a position below the generator.

Outboard motor

In a marine propulsion system comprising: a drive shaft operably connected to an engine and carrying a drive bevel gear; a propeller shaft carrying a propeller; and a pair of driven bevel gears meshing with the drive bevel gear and selectively engageable with the propeller shaft via a clutch member, the propeller shaft is provided with an axially facing annular shoulder surface which faces a corresponding axially facing surface of one of the pair of driven bevel gears to determine an axial position of the propeller shaft, and a rolling thrust bearing is disposed between the mutually facing surfaces of the propeller shaft and the one of the pair of driven bevel gears. The rolling thrust bearing reduces the friction between the mutually facing surfaces of the propeller shaft and the one of the driven bevel gears when they rotate in opposite directions to each other, to thereby improve the durability of these component parts.

Marine propulsion system

A grip 6b is projectingly provided on one side of an upper end of a control lever 4.sub.1, 4.sub.2 of a controller for a boat propelling device, and a switch accommodating portion 7b is projectingly provided on the other side. Control switches 14 and 15 are mounted in the switch accommodating portion 7b. The switch accommodating portion 7b is formed, on its front surface on the side of an operator, with an operating face 23 which is inclined, so that it comes closer to a center plane 21 extending laterally of the control lever 4.sub.1, 4.sub.2 at a laterally outer location. The control switches 14 and 15 have operating buttons 14a and 15a mounted to face the operating face 23. Thus, when the operator grasps the grip portion of the control lever, the thumb of his or her hand is naturally opposed to the operating buttons of the control switches and hence, the operator can extremely easily operate the operating buttons.

Controller for boat propelling device

An outboard engine includes an engine, a mount case for supporting the engine thereon, an undercase mounted to an upper part of the mount case, and an engine cover detachably secured to an upper part of the undercase and enclosing the engine together with the undercase. The undercase has a wall portion formed in opposed relation to a head cover of the engine. The wall portion is provided with a cutout opened in an upward direction in correspondence to the head cover and in a front-and-rear direction. The cutout is covered by a detachable lid. With this arrangement, it becomes possible to easily detach the large-sized head cover from the small-sized undercase, thereby allowing easy access to the engine for maintenance and inspection operations.

In an outboard marine engine, an air intake passage is mostly defined by a partition wall which extends substantially horizontally inside the engine cover so as to define an air introduction chamber above an engine room accommodating an engine. The air intake passage is defined in such a manner that the intake air is initially guided along a horizontal path between upper and lower plates, and is forced upward through an opening in the upper plate by a first vertical baffle plate extending between front edges of the upper and lower plates before it goes over a second vertical baffle plate extending from the upper plate and finally enters the engine room. Therefore, any heavier contents such as water droplets are effectively removed from the intake air by the actions of inertia and the gravitational force. Because the intake air passage is mostly defined by the partition wall, any design change in the air intake arrangement can be readily and economically accommodated by changing the partition wall.

Air intake arrangement for outboard marine engines

A riding-type lawn mower has a cutter housing with a rear discharge slot defined in a rear wall thereof. The cutter housing accommodates a pair of cutter blades laterally spaced from each other and rotatable in a substantially horizontal plane. The cutter blades are arranged such that the cutter blade on the righthand side as viewed in a forward direction of the lawn mower body is rotatable clockwise as viewed in plan and the cutter blade on the lefthand side as viewed in the forward direction of the lawn mower body is rotatable counterclockwise as viewed in plan. The cutter housing has an upper wall that has a pair of laterally spaced portions raised upwardly and defining respective discharge passages in the cutter housing that lead to the rear discharge slot. Rotative power from a lawn mower engine is transmitted to the cutter blades by a belt-and-pulley mechanism disposed on a low flat portion defined between the raised portions of upper wall. The cutter housing has a scroll-shaped discharge guide for guiding grass clippings smoothly into the rear discharge slot.
