A card connector into and from which a plurality of cards are inserted and removed, includes a required number of contacts, and a housing arranging and holding the contacts and having one or plural fitting openings each into which the card is inserted. The contacts each includes contact portions to contact at least two cards so that the same contact can be brought into contact with at least two cards. The card connector has a high degree of freedom for design of substrate and connector without complicating the arrangement of connection portions of contacts and is easy to assemble and easy to mount connection portions onto a substrate by a customer or consumer.

A mounting structure of lock pieces on a connector hood includes L-shaped lock piece support portions projecting from side surfaces of the connector hood and having free ends rising upwardly, respectively, and L-shaped window portions provided in the lock pieces and having provisional window portions and complete window portions, respectively. Each of the provisional window portions has a width for receiving one of the L-shaped lock piece support portions and a height much more than a thickness of the L-shaped lock piece support portion. On the other hand, each of the complete window portions is continuous to the provisional window portion at its upper end and has a width and a height somewhat more than the width and the thickness of the L-shaped lock piece support portion, respectively. With this arrangement, the lock pieces are able to be mounted on the metal hood by once inserting the lock pieces into the provisional window portions, respectively, and then moving the lock pieces into the complete window portions of the lock pieces.

A connector connectable and disconnectable without requiring any force comprises a pivotal lever, a slide plate linearly movable in its longitudinal directions by the operation of the lever and adapted be raised and lowered in response to the linear movements, and an ON-OFF plate adapted to rise and lower in response to the rising and lowering movements of the slide plate for opening at least one pair of contacts by inserting the ON-OFF plate between the contacts in the rising movement of the ON-OFF plate and closing the pair of contacts by removing the ON-OFF plate from between the contacts in the lowering movement of the ON-OFF plate. According to the invention, the lever is made detachable from the connector to avoid the need of bulky boxes for packaging due to its elongated lever and risk of damage to the lever subjected to excess forces.
