It is provided that a method for producing a biaxially oriented polyester film that can be used for industrial and packaging applications. A method for producing a biaxially oriented polyester film, comprising: a step of feeding a polyester resin into an extruder, a step of extruding the molten polyester resin from an extruder to obtain a molten resin sheet at 250 to 310&#xb0; C., a step of attaching the molten resin sheet closely to a cooling roll by an electrostatic application method to obtain an unstretched sheet, and a step of biaxially stretching the unstretched sheet, wherein the polyester resin fulfills the following (A) to (C): (A) the polyester resin comprises a polyethylene furandicarboxylate resin composed of a furandicarboxylic acid and ethylene glycol; (B) an intrinsic viscosity of the polyester resin is 0.50 dL/g or more; (C) a melt specific resistance value at 250&#xb0; C. of the polyester resin is 3.0&#xd7;10&#x3a9;&#xb7;cm or less.

To provide a furandicarboxylate unit-containing polyester film usable for industrial and packaging purposes. The film of the present invention is a polyester film, which is a biaxially oriented film of a polyester resin including a dicarboxylic acid component containing mainly a furandicarboxylic acid and a glycol component containing mainly ethylene glycol, wherein the film has a plane orientation coefficient &#x394;P of not less than 0.005 and not more than 0.200 and a film thickness of not thinner than 1 micro meter and not thicker than 300 micro meters.

In one of the embodiments, the invention provides a process for producing polyester, comprising adding a catalyst in a polycondensation reaction, esterification reaction or transesterification reaction between components comprising at least a polyfunctional alcohol and at least a polyfunctional carboxylic acid or ester-forming derivative of a polyfunctional carboxylic acid to produce the polyester; and obtaining the polyester, wherein the polymerization catalyst comprises an aluminum substance and a phosphorus compound, wherein the aluminum substance is selected from the group consisting of aluminum hydroxide and aluminum alkoxides, and wherein the phosphorus compound has an aromatic ring structure.

An oxygen-absorbing material including a transition metal compound and one or more thermoplastic resins, when used for a molded product such as container, exhibits excellent gas-barrier and oxygen-absorbing properties. The material absorbs oxygen from contents and blocks oxygen from entering so that the contents can be maintained in an oxygen-free state for a long period of time. An excellent oxygen-absorbing property is achieved by an amino group content of 20 mmol/kg or lower in at least one thermoplastic resin and by lowering the crystallinity of the thermoplastic resin.

Heat-shrinkable polyester films, each having a heat shrinkability of 40% or higher in the main shrinkage direction of the film after treatment in hot water at 80&deg; C. for 10 seconds, the change of heat shrinkability in the main shrinkage direction of the film after treatment in hot water at 55-75&deg; C. for 10 seconds before and after the film is left under an atmosphere at 40&deg; C. for 160 hours being 15% or lower, exhibit beautiful shrinkage finish in appearance involving only rare occurrence of shrinkage spots, wrinkles, strains, folding and other defects during shrinkage in the step of shrinking with hot air, and in particular, exhibit a quite small lowering in shrinkage finish after a lapse of time for storage and have low spontaneous shrinkability; therefore, these films are suitably used for applications such as labels and cap seals.
