In a porous composite, a base material has a honeycomb structure whose inside is partitioned into a plurality of cells. In the plurality of cells, a plurality of first cells whose one ends in the longitudinal direction are sealed, and a plurality of second cells whose other ends in the longitudinal direction are sealed are arranged alternately. A collection layer covers inner surfaces of the plurality of first cells. An overall Sa that is an arithmetical mean height Sa indicating a surface roughness of a surface of the collection layer in the plurality of first cells is greater than or equal to 0.1 μm and less than or equal to 12 μm. An overall mean thickness that is a mean thickness of the collection layer in the plurality of first cells is greater than or equal to 10 μm and less than or equal to 40 μm.

Porous composite

A porous composite includes a porous base material, and a porous collection layer. The collection layer is provided on the base material. The collection layer contains praseodymium oxide.

A porous composite includes a porous base material and a porous collection layer formed on the base material. The collection layer has a thickness greater than or equal to 6 &#x3bc;m. The collection layer has a plurality of large pores, each exposing the surface of the base material. A sum of areas of exposed regions of the base material that are each exposed from each large pore of the plurality of large pores is greater than or equal to 1% of the total area of the collection layer and less than or equal to 30% thereof. This allows the porous composite to achieve a favorable efficiency of collecting particulate matter and to increase the accessible area between the particulate matter and the collection layer and thereby accelerate oxidation of the particulate matter collected by the porous composite.

Honeycomb filter

A carbon membrane structure includes: a cylindrical porous support body provided with a plurality of cells extending from one end face to the other end face and functioning as fluid passages, and a carbon membrane disposed on the surface side of the cells formed in the porous support body. The plurality of cells are formed so that a distance from one cell to another cell adjacent to the one cell in a cross section perpendicular to a cell extension direction of the porous support bodyis 0.60 mm or more. The carbon membrane structure shows very excellent separation performance by the carbon membrane.

Carbon membrane structure and method for producing same

A porous carbon membrane has as a loaded component water, alcohol, ether, or ketone loaded on a surface or in a pore, or on the surface and in the pore thereof. The carbon membrane has the loaded component preferably having a molecular weight of 100 or less. The carbon membrane has the loaded component preferably being linear alcohol or linear ether. The carbon membrane has the loaded component preferably being at least one selected from methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, and n-butanol. There is provided a carbon membrane having high separation performance and little change in the separation performance with the passage of time.

Carbon membrane and method of manufacturing the same

A process for manufacturing a separation membrane with excellent productivity, which can uniformly dry and imidize a separation membrane precursor solution formed on an inner surface of through-holes of a monolith substrate and which does not require complicated operations such as placement of a monolith substrate in a dryer, and the separation membrane manufactured by the process are provided. The separation membrane is manufactured comprising: causing a separation membrane precursor solution to pass through through-holes in a porous monolith substrate, to form a membrane of the precursor solution on the surface of the through-holes, and drying the membrane by causing hot wind to pass through the through-holes.
