A recording medium determining device includes a light irradiating portion that irradiates a recording medium with visible light; a regular reflection light receiving portion that receives regular reflection light regularly reflected by the recording medium irradiated with light from the light irradiating portion; a diffused reflection light receiving portion that receives diffused reflection light diffusely reflected by the recording medium irradiated with light from the light irradiating portion; and a determining portion that determines the type of recording medium on the basis of each light amount of two or more visible light components with different wavelengths to one another among the light components received by the regular reflection light receiving portion and each light amount of two or more visible light components with different wavelengths to one another among the light components received by the diffused reflection light receiving portion.

A printing apparatus includes a position detection unit which includes an optical element, a light source and a light receiving element, radiates light from the light source toward the printing surface, causes diffused reflection light of reflection light which is reflected by the printing surface to be incident to the light receiving element through the optical element and outputs positional information relating to a position of the printing surface at which the light from the light source reflects, from the light receiving element, and a controller which causes movement of the carriage to stop when lifting up of the printing medium is detected on a basis of the positional information output from the light receiving element, in which a virtual plane which contains the optical element and the light receiving element is in a state of being inclined in relation to a normal line of the printing surface.

Printing apparatus

To provide an optical assembly capable of enhancing black level display while preventing deterioration of a WV film, and a projector assembled therewith, optical compensation elements are disposed before and after liquid crystal light valves, so that an unintended phase difference generated on the incident and emission sides of the liquid crystal light valves for individual colors is eliminated by adjusting the rotational positions of the optical compensation elements, thus enabling an enhancement in the contrast of a color image displayed on a transmission screen member. In case of B light including ultraviolet light in part, the optical compensation element is disposed at the subsequent stage of the liquid crystal light valve, so that as compared with when the optical compensation element is disposed at the preceding stage of the liquid crystal light valve, the optical compensation element can be reduced or prevented from deteriorating with age, thus enabling the contrast of image display to be maintained over a long period of time.

Optical assembly and projector

A projector is provided in which the production of an outer casing is facilitated, cooling efficiency is maintained well, and the outward appearance is preferable. A dustproof ventilating member is mounted in a clearance formed between the rim of an opening of a front casing forming an outer casing, and a projection lens. For this reason, cooling air can be reliably drawn into a device via the ventilating member. Since this eliminates the necessity for forming a meshed air inlet in the outer casing, the production of the outer casing is facilitated, and the manufacturing operation of the projector is easily performed. Moreover, cooling efficiency is maintained well, and the outward appearance is made preferable.

Projector with dustproof ventilating member

The invention provides a projector capable of easily replacing and efficiently cooling a light source, and capable of facilitating a reduction in the size of the projector. An exhaust fan adjacent to a light source lamp is mounted to a replacement cover so as to be removed from the main body of the projector together with the replacement cover. For this reason, by only removing the replacement cover, the light source lamp can be easily attached and detached together with the replacement cover unit. In addition, since it is not necessary to separately secure a special space for sliding the replacement cover unit, other components except the exhaust fan can be disposed closely to the periphery of the unit, and the size of the projector can be further reduced. Furthermore, when the replacement cover is closed, the exhaust fan is positioned closer to the replacement cover unit, so that a light source device in the unit can be efficiently cooled.

Projector capable of easily replacing and efficiently cooling light source

A projector, which has a main body and a plurality of feet protruding from the main body to support the main body, includes a first adjuster that adjusts stepwise the amount of protrusion of at least one of the plurality of feet, and a second adjuster that infinitely and finely adjusts the amount of protrusion of at least one of the plurality of feet. The position of a projection image of the projector can be easily and speedily adjusted by coarsely adjusting the amount of protrusion of the foot by the first adjuster, and then making fine adjustment by the second adjuster.

Projector

To provide a projector in which the position of a handle can be reliably maintained even when a housing and the handle are made of different materials. In a projector, the position of a handle is maintained with projections formed in the handle and contact portions of a lower casing being in contact with each other, and both the projections and the contact portions may be made of a same kind of material, such as resin. Therefore, there is no fear that one of the projections and the contact portions will undergo localized wear. Even when the lower casing is made of metal and the handle is made of resin, the handle can sufficiently withstand repetitive operations, and the position thereof can be reliably maintained.
