A binder for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery electrode that includes a crosslinked polymer having a carboxyl group or a salt thereof, wherein the crosslinked polymer includes 50% by mass or more and 100% by mass or less structural unit derived from an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer relative to all structural units, wherein a total amount of the ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and a salt thereof in terms of a non-neutralized form which is converted from the ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and a salt thereof relative to a total amount of the crosslinked polymer and a salt thereof is 5.0% by mass or less.

A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to an embodiment includes an electrode body, which is formed by winding a positive electrode and a negative electrode through a separator and then compressing into a flat shape, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode contains a lithium transition metal oxide which contains tungsten oxide adhering to the particle surfaces thereof. The negative electrode contains a negative electrode active material, which has particle surfaces coated with an amorphous carbon film, and at least one of polyacrylic acid and a salt thereof. The pressure acting in the thickness direction of the electrode body is 5&#xd7;10MPa or more.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

The invention provides nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries having excellent output characteristics during large-current charging and discharging. A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to one aspect of the invention includes a positive electrode including a lithium transition metal oxide, a negative electrode including a negative electrode active material capable of storing and releasing lithium ions, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, the negative electrode active material including a carbon material as a main component, the negative electrode including a tungsten compound and/or a molybdenum compound. The tungsten compound and/or the molybdenum compound is preferably attached to the surface of the carbon material.
