A method for processing liquids and suspensions using shockwaves that includes providing an apparatus including a shockwaves generation and processing sections and a reaction products dumping tank or reservoir; placing media to be processed into the shockwaves processing section through continuous or intermittent injection; introducing a pressurizing gas into the shockwaves generation section; introducing a detonable mixture into the shockwaves generation section; causing formation of at least one of a shockwave within the shockwaves generation section by igniting the detonable mixture so that at least one of a shockwave propagates from detonation section into shockwaves processing section; utilizing physical, chemical, biological or mechanical effects of the shockwaves in the shockwaves processing section; purging detonation products and pressurizing gas from the shockwaves generation section into reaction products dumping tank; and repeating to achieving a pre-determined degree of processing liquids, liquid suspension, colloids, gels, pastes located in the shockwaves processing section.

Method and apparatus for shockwaves processing with low acoustic and thermal environmental impacts

Method and apparatus for shockwaves processing

Pulsed detonation engines (PDEs), or various components thereof, such as the detonation chamber and/or nozzle, can be economically constructed from materials having low thermal stability, such as plastics, composites, and light metals. During operation, the intermittent injection and detonation of reactants produces a motive force (e.g., thrust) over relatively short intervals useful in orbit control and the like. The relatively short intervals of operation prevent temperatures of the PDE components from reaching temperatures that would result in their dimensional failure.

Pulsed detonation engines manufactured from materials having low thermal stability

Pulsed detonation engines (PDEs) are adapted for use in reaction control systems (RCS), such as thrusters for orbital correction and control (e.g., for earth-orbiting satellites), divert thrust generation and control for space-based interceptor devices, and for missile trajectory correction and motion control. According to one aspect of the invention, PDEs are adapted for motion control of so-called 'kill vehicles,' which are small devices, typically launched from satellites, for strategic missile defense.

Pulsed detonation engines for reaction control systems

A method for neutralization of the explosive content of mines and UXO by essentially completely consuming the explosive by combustion or decomposition before any explosion occurs. A charge of a compound that reacts with an extremely high heat-release rate is ignited on or near the casing of the device to be neutralized. The intense exothermic reaction generates high temperature combustion products that will disrupt the casing, thus leading to combustion or decomposition of the explosive. The holes melted in the mine casing enable ignition of a large area of the explosive charge and provide easy access for atmospheric air to support active burnout of the explosive. The apparatus comprises the compound that reacts with a high heat release rate, an ignition source, and a container for the assembly.

Method and apparatus for mine and unexploded ordnance neutralization

A pulsed detonation gun comprises a small-diameter detonation tube, an igniter, and an outlet for discharging detonation products containing a coating material. A detonable or reactive mixture containing a coating precursor is formed in the detonation tube, and the detonable or reactive mixture is ignited to produce detonation or reaction products containing the coating precursor or a coating material formed in situ during a detonation process or a deflagration process. The coating material is discharged through the outlet and is contacted with the substrate to produce a coating. The device is particularly useful for coating the inside surfaces of small-diameter tubes and a variety of other difficult-to-reach substrate surfaces.

A coating material is deposited on a substrate by vacuum or low-pressure pulsed detonation coating. A detonation chamber receives a detonable mixture containing a coating precursor. The detonable mixture is ignited to produce detonation products laden with the coating precursor. The detonation products are accelerated in a low-pressure or vacuum chamber and discharged through a nozzle into contact with a substrate situated in low pressure to produce a high quality coating.

Method and apparatus for low-pressure pulsed coating

A pulsed detonation engine having improved efficiency has a detonation chamber for receiving a detonable mixture, an igniter for igniting the detonable mixture, and an outlet for discharging detonation products. A diverging-converging nozzle is provided at the outlet of the detonation chamber. The geometry of the diverging-converging nozzle is selected to enable a relatively short nozzle to significantly improve efficiency of the pulsed detonation engine.

Method and apparatus for improving the efficiency of pulsed detonation engines

An apparatus for neutralizing mines includes several strands of explosive charge which are adapted to be rolled up into a cable. The cable containing the strands of explosive charge can be launched across a mine field by a rocket. The cable is opened and the strands of explosive are deployed to form a two-dimensional array disposed a certain distance above the ground. The strands of charge are separated by a fixed distance which is less than or equal to the distance of the strands of charge above the ground. Upon detonation of the explosive a substantially uniform blast wave is created exerting uniform pressure and impulse on the mine field below. The detonation should occur substantially simultaneously so that the blast from adjacent charges will interact thereby creating a planar wavefront.
